The Coast Guard has been in operation in Adelanto, California since 1879. The first coast guard station was established at the mouth of the San Francisco River. At that time, the United States Census only counted white people and not Native Americans. The Coast Guard began providing emergency services to the community in 1895. In 1907, a barracks and dispensary were built on Lake Buell. In 1912, a tower was erected on Point Conception Hill to provide an aerial view of the town for search and rescue operations during large storms. In 1969, the Coast Guard purchased a tugboat, "Sweeney", which was used for patrols around Adelanto Harbor. That same year, a lighthouse was constructed at Point Conception Hill and it became operational in 1971. In 1992, another tugboat was purchased by the Coast Guard and renamed "Haley". She served as both a patrol boat and aids to navigation until she was retired in 2006. Since its inception as a coast guard agency, the Coast Guard has provided service to residents of Adelanto through many different means including: firefighting; law enforcement; Search and Rescue; protection of life or property at sea; public education;impoundment/ Removal of Property from Streets or Highways;and more recently disaster relief efforts following disasters such as wildfires or earthquakes. In 2018 alone, members of the Coast Guard rescued 10 people from lobster boats stranded off shore after heavy weather conditions caused closures along Highway 101 south of Dana Point Calif., making this one of our most successful rescues ever!

Adelanto, California is a small city located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 30,611 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in San Bernardino County after Riverside. Adelanto is also the second most populous city in Southern California after Los Angeles. The economy of Adelanto has been centered around manufacturing since its founding in 1907 by two brothers who founded what became known as Western Electric Co., and it has continued to do so to this day with a significant presence in electronic equipment, appliances, aerospace and other industrial products. In recent years Adelanto's economic growth has come from new development outside of its traditional sectors, especially from the construction and real estate industries. The first people to settle in what is now Adelanto were American Indians. They arrived during the 1820s and 1830s and named their town for General Manuel Nieto de la Cueva y Costilla y Aguirre (1804-1868), one of Mexico's leading generals at that time. Mission San Gabriel Arcangela was established on May 13, 1836 by Father Junípero Serra as part of his missionary effort to convert all of southern California to Catholicism. On October 16, 1844 Mexican Californios led by José Joaquín de Alvarado attacked El Cajon while under Ulysses S Grant’s command; Alvarado was killed, but his army burned down more than 20adobe missions throughout southern California over three days before retreating back into Mexico City on November 10th. In 1911 Western Electric co-founder George Westinghouse donated 2 acres (1 hectare) near present-day eastern edge of town for an experimental electric power plant he had started up at Belle Isle Naval Station on Detroit River east of Buffalo, New York; when built it generated 5 megawatts (MW). By 1926 all US military bases were using electricity due to World War I – then America's biggest military engagement since war began − making electric vehicles mandatory for civilian use; meanwhile Edison offered $2 per watt against coal power for commercial users starting on July 1st 1914 . It wasn't until 1931 that Interstate 880 was completed linking Los Angeles with Pasadena via Adelanto; prior to that there was only local travel between those cities by boat or horseback across rough country roads typical of much of Southern California On April Fool's Day 1947 United States Senator Joseph McCarthy resigned from office after being accused by Senate Intelligence Committee Chair origins investigations subcommittee member Harry Truman administration aide Alger Hiss "(See: McCarthy hearings)."
