Agoura Hills is a small city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 85,868 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Pasadena-Arroyo Grande Unified School District. The city was founded on August 29, 1887 by James Irvine and his brother George Irvine when they purchased 1,200 acres (450 hectares) of land east of Pasadena for $5 per acre. The area now includes most of Agoura Hills proper with about 60% remaining undeveloped. The name "Agoura" comes from Indian word "aguar," meaning 'a kind of grape'. The first post office in Agoura Hills was established on October 15, 1888. The original town site included only a few hundred homes and measured 3 miles long and 1 mile wide at its widest point. In 1893, the City Council approved annexation of three other towns – Rolling Hills to the south and west, Bell Gardens to the north, and North Hollywood to the east – giving Agoura Hills a total population of 10,000 people In 1896 town officials built a water tower to provide potable water for residents while they waited for an improved pipeline that would bring water directly from Lake Arrowhead. That same year saw construction begin on what is now known as State Route 521 which ran through downtown Agoura Hills before terminating at Interstate 805 just south of where it meets La Cañada Flintridge Boulevard today. A 1905 fire destroyed much of downtown Agoura Heights but did not burn any homes so much as damage several businesses including two banks which were then rebuilt within five months thanks in part to donations from local citizens thereafter development continued apace with 24 new stores being opened between 1906-1907 alone . By 1912 there were 50 residences within walking distance containing over 2200 occupants making it one of Southern California's largest housing markets In 1915 City Manager Jock Mahoney persuaded Orange County Supervisor Whetstone Sweetland to give up his ownership stake in Saugus Shipbuilding & Drydock Company (later renamed Huntington Ingalls Industries) in exchange for input into plans for building an armada naval base at San Pedro Bay near Long Beach so that shipbuilders could be relocated there too However during World War I both industries closed down due largely to US military restrictions on Naval activity however after the war those restrictions eased

Agoura Hills is a city located in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County, California. The population was 79,746 as of 2018. Agoura Hills is part of the Pasadena-Arroyo Grande-Pasadena Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was founded in 1887 by two brothers, George and Ira Agoura. The name "Agoura" comes from the Chumash wordaguirre meaning "big wood." The city's first mayor was John Giannini and its first police chief was Hiram Johnson. In 1907, the City Council voted to rename the city after Samuel Morse because of his contributions to telecommunications and radio technology in America. Mayor Samuel Morse also donated land for what is now North Park Elementary School. In 1934, Agoura Hills became one of only a few cities in Southern California to adopt a Nazi salute when it displayed an American flag with swastika flying out from behind the crossstaff on top of City Hall. At that time, Nazi Germany had taken over Austria and much of Czechoslovakia; so Agoura Hills felt it needed to show support for its ally even though under threat from Axis forces at home and abroad. In 1941 during World War II, Agoura Hills joined other cities in southern California in refusing Japanese Imperial Army soldiers access to their municipal facilities while they were quartered at nearby Polynesian Village Naval Air Station (now Angel Island Naval Air Station). After World War II ended and Japan vacated most of Asia, many Japanese military personnel continued living and working inside Californiala until they left in 1946 according to Japan Times: "Many American troops who served during [World War II] remain here today as citizens or residents...Allagashira servicemen have been living very quietly among us since 1945." However there are still traces remaining such as this large tree at Northeast corner Of Main Street where there used once stood an ammunition dump
Agoura Hills was founded in 1887 by three brothers, George, John and Harry Agoura. The original farmstead consisted of a single house and nine acres of land. By 1907, the Agoura Hills post office had been established and the population had grown to over ninety. In 1916, the town passed an ordinance providing for a one-half mile wide street grid with four blocks of business districts. In 1936, Agoura Hills became part of Los Angeles County and was annexed into the city of Thousand Oaks.
