Agoura Hills is a town located in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County, California. The population was 153,858 at the 2010 census. Agoura Hills is known for its association with Hollywood and its many high-end residences and businesses. The original name of the town was Arroyo Seco which means "dry watercourse" in Spanish. In 1887, a group of settlers named themselves the "Village of Agoura". They quarried limestone there and built several homes including one on Mayfair Drive today's downtown Agoura Hills. By 1910, when railroads reached the area, Agoura Hills had an estimated population of 507 people. After World War II, industry largely left town as Hollywood moved to nearby Santa Monica and Westwood grew up around it. However, numerous new businesses have opened in recent years in what used to be agricultural land near Hearst Castle or north of La Cienega Boulevard
