Agoura Hills, California is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 113,351 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Pasadena-Arroyo Hills Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Agoura" comes from Agua Caliente Creek and "Hills" because of their participation in the Santa Monica Mountains National Monument. The city was founded on April 14, 1913 by two brothers: Harry S. Hill and his brother-in-law George Saunders.[1] The original town site included only 800 acres (30 km2) – all that remains today of what was once Agoura Hills.[2] However, after a surveyor's error mapping the area into townships[3], Hils began to develop land there— eventually acquiring 9 square miles (23 km2), or roughly one-seventh of present day Agoura Hills. In 1937 he formed an agricultural company which became Hollywood Land Company; this company developed over 2,000 acres (100 km2) around Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street between Lankershim Boulevard and Highland Avenue until it merged with MGM Studios Ltd., now Walt Disney Pictures Co., in 1959. In 1942 Isadore Sternthal purchased 5% interest in Hollywood Land Company from Hils for $5 million cash plus 10%, 20%, and 30% interests in other movie production companies then being organized by Sternthal such as Columbia Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Productions Inc., [4][5] and United Artists Motion Picture Company; these interests were sold off to various developers throughout the 1940s through 1960s[6]. Finally, when MGM transitioned its entire film operation to Digital Cinema Initiative standards starting on August 25th 2009,[7][8][9], all remaining tangible assets within HollywoodLand were donated to UCLA's School of Cinematic Arts Library together with frames used during filming at MGM studios dating back to 1927/28 including those made for Gone With the Wind
