The National Guard of the United States of America (NGUSA) was first organized on November 15, 1903 under the patronage of Governor Hiram Johnson. The original members were men from Los Angeles County and Kern county. On December 4, 1903, the NGUSA was reorganized as a state militia organization with jurisdiction in all but one county in California. On April Fool's Day 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt ordered that all state militias be placed under federal control and become part of the Department of Militia and Defense. As a result, the NGUSA became an individual-level organization with its own governor and secretary-general. The agency's headquarters were moved to Sacramento on May 1, 1927. In 1938, the National Guard Bureau was created within the Department of Defense to provide unified leadership for all U.S. military forces including national guard units across country. This led to increased efforts by states to purchase or lease their respective NGUSA assets for their own use; this process continued until 1962 when all state troops were transferred to Army command status under then-Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara's plan for unification of defense policy across DoD agencies pursuant to Executive Order 12356. The Agoura Hills Thurston County Sheriff's department purchased a surplus army truck from Fort MacArthur in 1961 as part of their gift history program honoring American soldiers who have served during World War II and Korea (the truck had been used by sheriff's department during both wars). Agoura Hills is a city located in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains, southwest of Los Angeles. The population was 66,437 at the 2010 census. The original name for this part of Los Angeles – El Segundo – suggests that this place was once hilly indeed but since then there has only been modest growth with some areas still characterized as agricultural valleys (El Segundo remains one of the poorest zip codes within LA). Nevertheless, El Segundo’s claim to fame goes back to 1928 when MGM Resorts Corporation built world’s largest concrete movie theater on Long Beach Blvd just north of present day Ventura Blvd (now bounded by Interstate 575 on one side and Glendale Ave./Long Beach Rd./Pasadena Rd./Winnetka Ave./ Miracle Mile on the other). That same year saw Academy Awards ceremonies held at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre which are still celebrated each year by members of both Academiae Medii Angliae (the older school equivalents) where nominees are announced pre-telecast live from their respective cities with plenary sessions following immediately afterwards whereupon votes are tallied and those having won are honored with awards onstage followed by a post-show press conference…. Today Grauman’s Chinese Theatre continues host major events such as gala premieres, galas honoring stars guesting from other countries & operas throughout the year
