The history of the Alameda Air National Guard detachment in California dates back to 1947. The unit was reactivated as part of the new United States Air Force on 1 July 1947 and assigned to the 9th Tactical Wing stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona. The unit activated its first fighter wing on 8 October 1949 and began providing air cover for military exercises in the Mojave Desert. On 15 May 1951, Alameda Detachment became a Regular Army Reserve Unit when it was redesignated 2nd Base Unit (Air Defense) with headquarters at Stockton Municipal Airport. Inactivated on 30 September 1954 while being reorganized into Air National Guard District 9 El Sobrante County unit responsible for all elements of the militia organization located within El Sobrante county, including Alameda County. Inactivated again on 16 October 1957 while being reorganized into Air National Guard District 10 Contra Costa County unit responsible for all elements of the militia organization located within Contra Costa county, including Alameda County.

Alameda is a city in Contra Costa County, California. The population was 153,391 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Contra Costa County and the largest city in Northern California. The name "Alameda" comes from Alnus Woods, a grove of oak trees located on what is today part of downtown Alameda. TheOakland Institute had been advocating for its annexation as a city since 1892 and on May 20, 1895, the City Council voted to annex Oaklands portion of Alameda. The first post office opened in 1887 in what is now downtown Alameda. The town became an incorporated village in 1903 when it annexed parts of Oakland and Emeryville. In 1906, it became a city with all residents being admitted without pay for a one-year period. In 1995, northern California's only gold mine closed due to high losses; this led to economic stagnation and large emigration out of the city over several years until 2001 when business activity revived and new jobs began flowing into the area spurred by redevelopment efforts nearby including Downtown Oakland's emergence as a center for tech startups. However by 2013 there were still too few jobs available or wages too low for many workers making up most of the workforce so businesses turned back to relocating their operations outside of Alameda proper (a trend that has continued). Unemployment rates have returned to levels seen before during tough times though they are down significantly from pre-mining days
The United States Air Force deployed a gift to the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1995. The gift was a Boeing 727 passenger jet. This plane was donated by Boeing and was used as an evacuation plane during the Bosnian War. The jet transported goods, supplies, and personnel to and from the war zone. It also served as a polling place for the residents of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Today, the United States Air Force continues its humanitarian efforts in Bosnia and Herzegovina with its deployment of two Boeing 747-200 passenger jets. These planes are being used to transport essential supplies and personnel to both war-torn regions. They will also be used for educational purposes, specifically in schools that have been damaged by conflict or violence.
In 1951, the United States Air Force deployed a gift to the then-Soviet Union in commemoration of the Helsinki Accords. The gift was a set of two U.S. Army surplus rifles, which were given to the Soviet Union as part of a disarmament agreement following World War II.
Alameda was founded by the Spanish in 1795 as Rancho San Antonio de Alameda. The area that is now Alameda was part of the missions established in 1803 by Father José Francisco Ortega y Girón. In 1825, a portion of Rancho San Antonio de Alameda was detached and annexed to the fledgling city of Oakland. It wasn’t until 1852 when the City of Oakland incorporated as a city, which led to an increase in population and development along Park Boulevard. The late 19th century saw more growth with breweries being built and stores opening up. On September 25, 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt dedicated a park at Broadway and Peralta Streets called “President Roosevelt’s Park” in honor of our president. During World War II there were many military installations located within or near Alameda including Camp Nelson on Peralta Street just east of downtown, Fort George Gillem on MacArthur Boulevard north of Fruitvale Avenue, and Naval Air Station Elmira on Mandela Boulevard south of Interstate 880. After the war ended, many businesses closed down but new ones began to form such as ABC Corporation (now Google) and Eastman Kodak Company which moved their headquarters from Rochester, New York to Fremont during this time period. Many technological advancements took place during these years such as Apple Inc.'s first product launch event taking place at Home Depot in 1966 followed by Xerox Palo Alto Research Laboratories' early work on photocopying machines at home (these machines are still used today). One particular landmark that emerged during this time period was Milkweed Place which housed three warehouses that produced milk for local grocery stores and cafes throughout the Bay Area; it is currently a museum run by University Heights Development Community Services District
Alameda was founded in 1853 as a tiny Indian settlement on the east bank of the San Francisco Bay. The first European to come to Alameda was José Antonio de Mendoza, who founded a mission in 1853. In 1868, the town was renamed Oakland after Major General George Armstrong Custer, who had fought in the Mexican-American War and been awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery. The city's growth came about with two waves of newcomers: German and Italian Americans in the late 1800s brought their families to move into new homes and businesses; then came Latinos in the early 2000s as California became more diverse. Today, Alameda is home to a large African American population as well as sizable Asian and Latino communities.
