The Alameda Air Force Base is home to the United States Air Force's first Tactical Aerospace Division, which was activated in 1947. The wing was redesignated as the 404th Tactical Airlift Wing in 1959 and then again in 1985 as the 412th Airlift Wing. It moved from its original location at San Pablo International Airport to Alameda County Coliseum on December 10, 1990. Today, it is one of 16 wings within the USAF Resolute Support Command responsible for providinglift support to coalition troops and operations worldwide. The wing's primary mission is to provide Aerial refueling services to coalition forces operating in Afghanistan and Iraq. Additionally, it provides security for US military installations around the world through monitoring airspace and conducting airborne inspection missions. The wing has a long history of gift giving that dates back to 1948 when USAAF Lt Col James Condon donated 12 Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter aircraft (serial numbers 1-12) and four Beechcraft SB2C Baron bombers (serial numbers 17-28) for use by the local police department. In 1957, another donation of 7 P-38s and 4 F4U Corsairs were made with serial numbers 0-7 for use by the Municipal Airport Authority (MUA). In 1969, yet another donation of 8 P-38s was made with serial number 9-10 for use by Contra Costa County College (CCC). With each passing year, donations increased until finally reaching their present total of 129 aircraft gifted over more than 50 years! Many individuals have given back not just financially but also emotionally by donating time or resources towards aviation programs at Alameda AFB or elsewhere within the USAF. The Alameda Air and Space Museum has a rich air force gift history dating back to World War II. In 1945, the city of Alameda passed an ordinance that provided for the donation of surplus military equipment to the California Air National Guard. The first donation was a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress aircraft, which was donated in 1946. From then until 1978, the museum received over 100 donations from Alameda citizens and businesses. In 1978, the museum opened its current building on Airport Boulevard in Alameda. This new facility houses both the museum’s archives and its exhibits on all aspects of air service and space technology. The museum also offers educational programs on different aspects of air and space history.
Alameda is a city in Contra Costa County, California. The population was 105,405 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of San Francisco Bay and encompasses a wide area of hills and valleys that run along the eastern coast of Oakland Hills. The first Europeans to visit Alameda were Spanish missionaries in 1776. Jesuit Father José de Aranda y Quadra surveyed and reported back on what he saw in 1824 when he explored the valley as part of his survey for Mission San Francisco de Asís. In 1852, Alameda became part of newly formed Contra Costa County; it was incorporated as a city in 1868. The City's history can be traced back to its settlement by early pioneers who arrived before 1800, most notably Jobstowner John Steele and his family from New York state. In 1868, local voters passed a resolution calling for an investigation into allegations that landowner George Hearst had cheated them out of gift land which would form the nucleus of today's downtown Alameda skyline. Sixteen years later on November 3rd, 1890, after much debate among City Council members about whether or not to make formal annexation requests to other municipalities within Contra Costa County due to growing enrollment at our city's schools (which only began enrolling students during this time), we finally annexed with Berkeley! A unanimous vote gave us our name - Alameda! Since 1990, ourCity has undergone many changes including major renovation projects such as new fire stations (1901-2002), rebuilt police department (2005-2009), updated parks & Recreation Department (2009-2013) and new library system (2012). These renovations have helped improve public safety while also expanding opportunities for residents and businesses in our vibrant CityCenter District. In recent years there has been an increasing focus on Downtown redevelopment which is now well underway with much progress being made including: new restaurants/bars/sports venues/ulentos etc., new housing developments including One hundred thirty thousand square feet of office space currently under construction at 24th Street BART station overlooking downtown and more importantly retail development plans that are scheduled for completion by fall 2019 totaling over 100 thousand square feet with anchor stores such as Macy’s & Sears plus additional services like car wash & dryer rentals
The United States Air Force (USAF) has been the branch of the military that provides aerial support to NATO member states since World War II. The USAF was founded on November 3, 1947 as the American Forces in Germany (AFG). In 1949, AFG was renamed the American Air Force and in 1951 became a separate service within the United States Armed Forces. On July 1, 1959, USAF was redesignated as an air force with jurisdiction over all land-based branches of the U.S. Military establishment including naval vessels afloat and air forces stationed at overseas bases. The USAF is one of only three militaries in world history to be grant operational command over both nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles systems. The USAF traces its origins to World War I when America entered into a military alliance with Great Britain known as the First Allied Expeditionary Force (FAE). This force included 375 planes led by Major General George Custer and Admiral John Slessor. RAF fighter pilots flew patrols over German territory providing support for ground forces until 1918 when they were disbanded following World War I. Upon America’s entry into World War II, President Franklin D Roosevelt called for an “immediate mobilization” of all Americans for war because he believed that Nazi Germany had “no parallel in Europe” and posed a grave threat to democracy worldwide. The first steps towards creating an air arm were made during this time with President Harry S Truman authoring legislation calling for establishment of a National Aeronautics and Space Administration within government control to develop aircraft for use by both national security agencies and civilian airlines. This legislation also created what would become known as NASA; however, it did not include any responsibility for overseeing or funding aeronautical research or development within NASA itself but trusting these activities to private industry participants under joint auspices known as NASAs Joint Research Committee (JRC). With funds available from Congress through appropriations Acts following Pearl Harbor attacks on December 7th 1941 followed by Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor two weeks later which killed more than 100 Americans including 13 Admirals and six Queens executive officers; president Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066 which established satellite reconnaissance capabilities using Japanese Interceptors equipped with Enigma keys which allowedght commanders at strategic points around Japan mapout enemy positions without revealing their coordinates thus enabling enemy leaders such Saddam Hussein knew where his armies were located before they could cross their borders This order paved way for America becoming one of only five countries in world history able to launch strategic airstrikes directly against targets inside Nazi Germany without involving allies such as Great Britain who provided intelligence support throughout the strike operations ensuring complete secrecy while also allowing them limited damage limitation measures being taken by ourAAF bomber fleets operating out of RAF Merville near Rouen France while other allied bombers struck targets deep inside Germany resulting in vast destruction particularly around Dresden important railway yards essential production plants manufacturing munitions critical coastal artillery installations vital supply depots etc etc etc Following Operation Paperclip which saw many top scientists, engineers, pilots and technicians from Nazi Germany recruited into American scientific institutions; advances were made in technology across all branches during this period leading to new types of airplanes such as Boeing737 Dreamliners being developed with Jet Airliners becoming popular shortly afterwards giving rise To Airbus Lineage series airline companies today
