Alameda is a city located in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 78,171 at the 2010 census. It is the tenth-largest city in California and the eighth-largest city in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1868, Alameda was created from part of Contra Costa County. The City of Alameda was incorporated on October 15, 1892. The first coffee shop opened in 1892 in what is now downtown Alameda. In 1915, an early owner of a restaurant named Dutch Bros., Adolphus Busch decided to open a cafe specifically for coffee consumption only - this became known as "Dutch Bros.' Cafe". In 1951, Dutch Bros.' Cafe moved to Fremont Street and changed its name to Java Joes Coffee Shop (later renamed Java Joe's). In 1957, JavaJoe's became a java house with several locations throughout Northern California before moving permanently to its current location on Stockton Boulevard in Hayward on December 1st of that year. On May 6th 1969 Java Joe's celebrated their 50th anniversary by hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by then Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Dianne Feinstein; at that time it had over 100 locations statewide including 12 inside City Hall! As well as being one of America's oldest java houses still operating today – founded more than 60 years ago – Java Joe's also has numerous awards for excellence bestowed by various publications such as "Restaurant News" and "Coffee Reviewer". During the 1990s they made some significant renovations which included installation of an espresso machine capable of producing 4 ounces per shot or above (the first commercially licensed espresso machine ever sold) as well as enlarged kitchen areas making it possible for them to serve larger groups at once without sacrificing quality or service. Additionally they introduced fresh squeezed lemonade into their menu during this period which began becoming popular among tourists visiting Oakland and Berkeley who would often stop by for some refreshment while walking through those cities' neighborhoods. After many years off the market due largely to lack of interest from restaurateurs – including two stints closed due to fire damage – Java Joe's reopened under new ownership on January 25th 2008 after spending 5 years inactive since leaving last ownership handsomer than when they left 10 years earlier! This marks another triumphant return for one of America’s most successful small businesses! Restructuring following the Great Recession led them back onto Stockton Boulevard where they remain today with over 20 locations across Northern California including 7 inside City Hall!

Today, French Press Coffee is still produced with traditional methods including pressing ground beans using water at high pressure under vacuum to extract all the flavors possible.

Alameda's name comes from the Ohlone people and means "place where the Ohlones used to live." The first European settlers in Alameda were Spanish missionaries who founded missions near what is now downtown Alameda on October 3, 1776. Mission San Jose de Asís was founded in 1817 by Father José Sul Rossa and brother Francisco de la Casas. In 1836, Alameda became part of Mexico when it was ceded as part of Baja California to Mexico. After Mexican independence was granted in 1848, Alameda remained Mexican territory until it became an American state in 1912. In 1916, the City Council adopted a resolution creating an urban district for what would become Downtown Oakland and Amador Heights should be annexed into the new city limits since they were adjacent to each other but without having any voting rights or representation. This resolution led to the annexation of those areas by Oakland on December 5, 1916. The current mayor is Libby Schaaf (D). The history of Oakland begins with three groups of Native Americans: the Ohlone people who lived onshore near Point Reyes Station between about 875 BC and AD 1682; linguist/historian William Golding stated that these peoples hunted mammoths and tamed horses during their early years; and Norseman Kåre Olafsson explored Monterey Bay in AD 946-947 when he named a bay after his homeland - Hvítárvatn (Icelandic: Vatnajökull), also known as Volcanic Island Bay according to some sources because of its high volcano activity at that time It wasn't until 1830 that white men first visited this area which included everything east of San Francisco BayThe first permanent European settler was John Crespo who purchased land east of Sacramento Street between Portsmouth Square and Franklin Streets on November 6th 1840 from Antonio Vallejo for $2 per acre In July 1850 via eminent domain BritishUSA acquired Rancho Rinconada including present day Hayward Parke Park from Juan Sinco Chavez for $8 per acre Rancho Rinconada formed part of Rancho Tejon which consisted primarily of unproductive mission land westward along San Pablo Avenue then northwesterly along Mission Creek northwest past Livermore Valley to wetlands northeast past Rodeo Drive today's Fremont Street boundary Of note there were no towns established within ranchos boundaries only villages located westward around Coyote Hills where Russian troops camped during World War II .Three months later John Crespo sold additional parcels totaling 134 acres southwest portions Elk Grove Village between Sacramento Street & Ira streets Samuel Sisson bought 320 acres southeast corner Highway 24 & Orinda Boulevard Solomon Northrup Chalfant took over 100 acres includingpresent day sites south endof Hayward Road south sideof Eshoo Roadnorthwest cornerof Interstate 680 & span

Alameda County was formed on November 3, 1853, from portions of Contra Costa and San Mateo counties. The county seat was Oakland. It was named for the Alamo, a Spanish fortification in San Francisco Bay. In 1868, the Central Pacific Railroad reached Alameda from Oakland and designated it as its terminus. The railroad's line served as a commercial center for much of the 20th century.
