One of the first things that NROTC did was provide sailors with donated gifts. From 1942-1946, they gave out over 1,500 items free of charge to sailors who volunteered for service. Many of these items were from local businesses or individuals who felt that their contribution would be significant in helping to support their country during wartime. From 1946-1973, NROTC offered more than 10 student exchanges per year between Alameda and Okinawa Prefecture on Japan’s main island of Okinawa. These exchanges allowed Sailors from both sides of the Pacific Ocean to learn about each other’s cultures and customs while also exchanging clothes, food, medical supplies and equipment. This exchange helped create an important connection between American military forces stationed on Okinawa and Japanese military forces stationed on Japan’s main island. Additionally,NROTC played an important role in creating a sense of community among American servicemen living on Okinawa throughout World War II as well as after the war ended. In 1973-1996, NROTC discontinued its program due to budget cuts but left a lasting legacy within Alameda by providing servicemen with donated items free of charge for years afterwards until disbanding completely in 1996). In 1966, the school moved to Monterey Bay and eventually relocated to Santa Cruz County. In 2007, Point Reyes Station was renamed after Rear Admiral John Waddell who served as Commander of Surface Warfare Forces Pacific Fleet from 2006-2008.
Alameda County is a county located in the Bay Area of San Francisco, California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 825,744. Its borders are the city of Oakland to the east and south, Contra Costa County to the north and west, Alameda County included all of what is now downtown Oakland before it became a part of Contra Costa Countys jurisdiction. The county seat is Livermore. The first Europeans to visit Alameda were members of an English Exploring Expedition led by Lieutenant John Copley which landed on shore at Point Reyes near Fort Point on July 25, 1802. The party was composed of 12 men: George Vancouver, James Cook, Nicolas de Lacrosse and two Native Americans - Manuel Amador and Elias Beeckman - among others. In 1817 Captain George Beecher charted Alameda Bay as part of surveys for what would become Contra Costa County. In 1853 when Rancho Arenal was granted to Antonio Jose Torres y Peña (1812-1886), owner of Rancho la Purísima within present-day Hayward District, alamandas began flowing into Marin County from what is now Richmond Valley through what is now Albany Hill onto his property; they were collected and sold by Weir & Co., boatmen in company with other farmers along wooden Eventually various settlements formed around these collection points called " harvesting points ". By 1860 there were 24 such villages or hamlets scattered throughout nine miles square within present day Hayward Districts boundaries; they possessed no road connection with one another except via barbed wire fences shared by their respective jurisdictions. It wasn't until 1901 when real estate developer Joseph Rice purchased land eastward across Highway 99 from Arenal's rancho for $1 million that development began at a earnest level on three sites – Arroyo Seco (now Eastshore Street), Potrero Hill (now Webster Avenue) and Redwood City – creating today'sOakland districts including Emeryville and Fremont hereinbefore unincorporated areas including those lying within today's Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.. Construction continued until 1915 when all four sites were combined into one new area known as "The South Side". Rice died in 1928 without having seen any results so his son Harry took over operations until Harry's death also in 1938.. In 1951 The South Side was divided again into two parts – North Bay (including Emeryville) and South Bay (excluding Sunnyvale). On December 6th 1941 during World War II Japanese forces bombed Pearl Harbor resulting in America entering war against Japan without asking Russia or Germany which resulted in massive Allied civilian casualties with more than 150 dead directly attributable to Japanese military action alone according to US Congressman Ira Levin(D-NY). On December 14th 1941 after weeks of negotiations conducted between Roosevelt administration officials chaired by Secretary Stimson[6] Truman ordered General Douglas MacArthur[7] head up Operation Husky[8], code name for Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor which resulted in almost 3 million American servicemembers being killed or wounded
