The military has been deployed in Alhambra, California for centuries. The city was founded by Spanish colonists in the mid-19th century and became a major center of commerce and culture. The Alhambra Army Cadet Battalion was deployed to support the California National Guard on September 11th, 2001. The battalion was mobilized and arrived in San Diego on September 17th. They were demobilized and returned home on December 1st.
Alhambra is a city in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, California. As of the 2010 census, its population was 70,512. It is located on the eastern edge of Downtown Los Angeles and is bordered by Rosemead to the north and east, Monterey Park to the west and Glendale to the south. The first post office opened in Alhambra on December 7th 1912. The name "Alhambra" first appeared on a map dated January 1st 1912. That same year saw completion of The Domain project which comprised modern day Chavez Ravine between 3rd Street NW and Vine Street NW as well as Sayre Avenue Northwest including today's Chinatowns at 3rd Street NW and Vine Street NW. Homeowners who voted for Measure M-1 were allowed one lot per household without having their home inspected or receiving permission from city officials before construction could begin; this practice continued until 1933 when all property owners were required to have their homes inspected prior to construction beginning lest they be assessed assessible taxes retroactive theretofore unpaid by those living within their boundaries

Alhambra was founded in 1785 as a small rancho by José Alvarado and his wife, María Cosme. The town grew rapidly due to the influx of settlers from Southern California. The architecture in downtown and other areas around the Civic Center were designed by Scottish architect Andrew Jackson Downing with assistance from his Californian partner William Bruce Walthall. Many famous movie stars – including Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Bette Davis – filmed their scenes at nearby Pinewood Studios or on nearby residential streets like Vine Street between Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Highland Avenue during the 1930s through 1940s when Hollywood was still an Elaborate business model where large studios took up entire blocks near busy arterial streets like Sunset Boulevard and Highland Drive in Beverly Hills while smaller production companies took up less developed blocks further North along Olive Street between Western Avenue and Pacific Highway (now Yucca Road). In 1908, Alhambra was incorporated as a city by an act of the California Legislature. The city was named after Abdul-Malik Ibn Muslim, a nobleman from Baghdad who had donated land for the city's development.
