Alhambra, California is a city in the County of Los Angeles, located in the eastern San Fernando Valley. The population was 112,815 as of 2018. Alhambra has been inhabited since the Tongva people settled the area in the early 1800s. The City of Alhambra was founded on April 25, 1892 by Judge Augustus E. Mason and Mayor Maurice Halsey. It was named for General Salesian Father Miguel Angel de la Hoz y Valdés y Quintero who had visited Southern California during 1868-69. The first post office at Alhambra opened on December 6, 1892. The name "Alhambra" came from an old Spanish word meaning "a place where there are palms." In 1907, part of what is now Hollywood was annexed to Alhambra and became known as Hollywood Annex; however, most of Hollywood remained within Los Angeles County until 1959 when it was transferred toollywood county government under then-Mayor Pat Brown's administration. On November 22, 1928 – due to protests by residents over plans for a new airfield called Terminal Island – the City Council voted 7-1 to fire Mayor George Norris and replace him with Harry Bridges (the only council member not to vote). When World War II began two days later and military requirements changed how planes were being delivered into LAX proper (and downtown), Bridges refused orders to close down one end of LAX for fear that it would disrupt traffic flow into Downtown Los Angeles; he instead diverted all outgoing flights through Terminal Island which resulted in more than $2 million in redirected traffic during wartime! In 1951 President Dwight D Eisenhower placed boundary changes uponLos Angeles County which included portions of Beverly Hills including much coveted land east of Mulholland Drive now occupied by Century City– leaving Alhambrans much majority white ethnically Anglo town while Black people continued living near Watts southward). This changed again when Barack Obama became president in 2008 because according to Presidential Executive Order 13525 “blacks” were no longer considered citizens or residents within any incorporated municipality withinLos Angeles County effective January 1st 2009″ making legal residency requirements racially discriminatory against black people living inside cities limits while those living outside city limits could still claim citizenship/residency privileges under Section 8 housing voucher programs administered by HUD . After years worth lawsuits these restrictions were repealed effective January 15th 2013 following public outcry) . Today about 20% minority citizens live inside city limits though their percentage rises dramatically outside city boundaries due largely toSan Francisco's large African American population also inhabiting adjacent neighborhoods such as South Pasadena and Carson Viejooutsidecitylimitswhere they can enjoy many same rights & benefits granted unto whites residinginsidecitylimits

Alhambra is a small town in California, located on the eastern edge of Pasadena. It was founded by Spanish settlers in 1871 as part of Rancho Cucamonga. The town traces its history to the mission period and the founding of Alhambra Mission. In 1795, Franciscan friars established a small rancho called La Paloma de las Pulgas (The Worm’s Nest) about 4 miles east of present-day Alhambra. The frigate San Diego had been lost at sea while sailing from Acapulco to Monterey Bay on December 21, 1788, and all but three crew members were lost with her. OnFebruary 3, 1789, Father José Gomez published an official apology for their loss and dedicated a cross on top of Mount Carmel Church which still stands today. In 1851 Governor Antonio Portillo granted land east of downtown Los Angeles to thirty-five wealthy Anglo Californians who had donated $1 million towards its development. The area now known as Pasadena was then included within this grant; however, no buildings were built until after Portillo's death in 1850. The first post office in Alhambra opened in 1865; it closed two years later because there was not enough business to warrant such a high price for postage stamps. In 1872 the United States Post Office Department moved from Washington D.C., where it had been functioning since 1837, to Los Angeles County when California became a U.S. statehood; accordingly, Alhambra's first post office was at 9th Street and Hillcrest Avenue near Western Ave.; it reopened on November 15th 1870 after being closed for one year due to low mail volume caused by railroad construction nearby (the tracks still run through town). It wasn't until 1912 that cable cars arrived in Alhambra; they began service passengers between North Hollywood and Downtown Los Angeles via Anza Drive (now Orange Boulevard) inside what is now the Korean American Cultural Center (KAC). In 1916 all local mail went out via carriages operated by Southern Pacific Railroad which stopped running passenger services during World War I; thereafter, deliveries were made directly from letter carriers' offices by truck or horseback
