Military gift history in Alhambra, California began with the arrival of soldiers on October 8, 1846. The first soldier to arrive was Captain John D. Stevenson from San Diego who disembarked at Point Fermin and reported for duty with Company A, 2nd Battalion, Infantry Regiment California Volunteers. He and his battalion arrived in Alhambra on October 10th and were honorably discharged on December 4th. The next day, October 11th saw the addition of Company B to the regiment and Lieutenant Colonel James K. Higginson from Stockton arriving that same day as well. On October 12th General Davis ordered all companies of volunteers to arm for war and within a few days Companies C (Elk Grove), F (Lodi), G (San Bernardino) had also joined in arms. On November 1st came another company – Company L of the Santa Clara Volunteer Cavalry which landed at Point Conception just outside of town after a long ride from San Francisco. They arrived without any incident and were assigned to garrison duty around the local missionaries’ convent where they resided until recalled by General Davis on December 3rd for service in Mexico City under Lt Col George Armstrong Custer commanding division XIX Corps. Company L was reassigned back to garrison duty but did not stay too long there as they were called up again early in January 1847 for military exercises near Sonora Arizona Territory under Major-General David Hunter commanding division I Corps which included Alhambra County within its boundaries. On January 17th these exercises ended with a skirmish along the Mexican border near Huachuca Village where one soldier died from an enemy bullet wound he received while practicing riding aboveground onto an open field below where other troops stood watch nearby; this event is still commemorated today as part of Company L’s Military History Museum Collection Exhibit titled “Alhambra Valley Campaign: January 17-25, 1847” In February General Hunter replaced Major-General David Hunter who had been transferred south due to health problems and returned home to New York City before taking up his new command position at Tucson Verde Rancho Niguel Mexico Territory Commanding Division XII Corps effective March 6th despite protests by some element within his army including Captain Stevenson who felt he should have been given command instead because he knew more about warfare than anyone else in his unit according to one account Captain Stevenson later served as first sergeant of Company M during the Mexican War era when their unit fought against American forces under Armyof Northern Mexico general Pio Pico during what is known as Thebattle Of Coyocco Ridge . After being rotated out of active duty he volunteered for service with Ulysses S Grant's Union Army during The Civil War serving as Sergeant First Class United States Marines throughout most of that conflict including Battle Of Shiloh which resulted in Gabriel García Márquez' Appaloosa horse being shot dead leaving him stranded atop a rebel hill top after units led by Private First Class William Taggart captured him alive . It has been said that if it wasn't for Private Taggart's capture Sergeant García Márquez would have died due to injuries sustained during battle). Alhambra is a city located in Riverside County, California. The population was 81,898 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Alhambra has been inhabited by humans since at least 10,000 BC. The first European to see and map Alhambra was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on November 14, 1542. In 1781, Mission San Gabriel Arcángel was founded by Franciscan missionaries under the leadership of Father Junípero Serra and named for Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain where they had been staying while exploring Southern California. In 1821, General José Joaquín Córdoba purchased land east of downtown from Mexican trader Pedro Garza y Costilla and established Rancho Santa Anita near present-day Anaheim Hills. The area now occupied by Anaheim included what is now northwest Hollywood and much of southern Pasadena; Córdoba donated most of this area to the town for use as an agricultural colony with cattle raising as its mainstay economy. In 1846 Griffiths bought 5 leagues (about 12 km²) east of downtown from José Gomez de la Hoz for $1 In 1871 Elihu Biddle sold 1/4 mile (0.6 km²) north of Main Street on his rancho La Brea to Rufus King who built Kingsbury House which still stands today one block south of Main Street across from what is now known as Leland Stanford Junior University’s Campus Recreation Center – also home to several championship golf courses including some owned or managed by Real Madrid Golf Club). Alhambra was founded in 1785 as a small Mexican Mission by Padre José de Arguello. The mission was abandoned in 1821 and the land became part of Rancho San Miguel de Alhambra, which was sold to Anglo Americans in 1842. In 1865, the mission and some of its buildings were destroyed by fire. The remaining structure, including the church, remained standing until it burned down in 1904. The Alhambra Palace, also known as the Palace of the Moon, was a palace in Alhambra, California. It was built between 1874 and 1885 by Italian architect Vincenzo Florio for Spanish nobility. The palace was completed as part of the original Mexican–American War Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and served as the temporary capital of Mexico from 1848 to 1850. After Mexican independence from Spain in1821, Mexico City became Mexico's new capital and the Alhambra Palace became its provisional seat. The French had commissioned Florio to build their own private palazzo inAlhambra which they called La Casa del Fuego (The House on Fire). The French left after their defeat at Buena Vista Hill in 1846 and the building stopped being used for civilian purposes until it was donated to Alhambra by Don José de la Cueva y Peralta in 1854. In 1898, Major General John J. Pershing ordered all American troops out of Mexico City and into Guanajuato so that he could take control over Queretaro during the98 Mexican Revolution. When General Pershing arrived atAlambrA he found that La Casa del Fuego had been abandoned by its previous occupants and was now occupied by a detachment of Confederate soldiers led by Captain John Broussard who refused to leave without a proper surrender ceremony. After many days of argument, Pershing relented and allowed Captain Broussard to escorted his unit insideLa Casa del Fuego where they took up residence until they were forced to retreat back out again due to an attack by Mexican forces under Colonel Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna On September 15th 1898 Commodore James Dewey moved his flagship USS "New York" from Havana Harbour through San Francisco Bay en routeTo arrive off Cochin China following reports that Spanish squadron under Admiral Isidro Barragán was aboutTo open fire on American ships anchored offshore near Yerba Buena Island . On October 5th 1898 Vice Admiral William McRaven relieved Admiral Barragán and ordered him instead To return home whenFurther evidence emerged indicating That there Was no Spanish Squadron present At all...
