As part of this boundary change, Aliso Viejo was moved from its original location on the eastern bank of the Loma Prieta River to its current location on CR 16. In 1928, construction began on what is now known as City Hall Drive in honor of then-mayor Harry Houdini who had helped found and promote cityhood in LA County. Mayor Houdini's donation allowed for the building's completion less than two years later and it served as both city hall and police headquarters until 1974 when it was replaced by county courthouse Annex #1 which still stands today.
