The Aliso Viejo Coast Guard was founded in 1912 as the Southern California coast guard. It became a state department in 1914 and changed its name to the Aliso Viejo Coast Guard in 1922. The coast guard abandoned its station at Point Loma in 1937 and relocated to Carpinteria. In 1966, the Coast Guard moved back to its original location at Carpinteria and changed its name to the Aliso Viejo County Sheriff's Department. The present-day Coast Guard is a result of the merger of several agencies including the Aliso Viejo County Sheriff's Department, Ventura County Sheriff's Department, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and Orange County Sheriff's Department on January 1st, 1997.
Aliso Viejo, California is a city located in Orange County, California. Aliso Viejo has a population of 137,609 as of 2018 and is the seventh-largest city in Orange County by population. The City of Aliso Viejo was first settled in 1887 and its current form was adopted in 1959. It served as an incorporated municipality until 1984 when it became an unincorporated community. The name "Aliso Viejo" comes from Spanish for "the higher ground." The city's economy primarily revolves around the aerospace industry with companies such as Lockheed Martin and Boeing having their headquarters here. Other major economic sectors include information technology, healthcare, real estate and manufacturing. In terms of demographics,Aliso Viejo is home to a largely Latino population that is heavily concentrated within the downtown area. The downtown area features several large shopping malls including one called Westfield Mall which opened in 1998 and employs over 1,000 people. Other malls located nearby include Santana Row Shopping Center which opened in 2003 and Job Corps Plaza which opened in 2006. Additionally, there are several smaller shopping centers scattered throughout the city limits including One Aliso Viejo Plaza Shopping Center (opened in 1978), Northridge mall (opened in 1995) and Southpark mall (opened in 2000). There are also several professional sports teams located within Aliso Viejo - both local high school squads as well as NCAA Division I programs from Cal State Fullerton and UCLA among others - but most residents seem focused on general just-in-time/grocery store findings rather than attending games or following team allegiances outside of basic rooting interests at best. Aside from minor league baseball playing outofthecity ofthesparegrounds at Chavez Ravine Park there isn't much else going on locally aside from occasional street fairs or carnivals complete with free Admission for all ages that take place during late July/early August each year known officially as "Carnivalopolis".

Aliso Viejo is located in the eastern San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County, California. At its peak in the early 1920s, Aliso Viejo was one of Southern California's most vibrant and affluent communities. Today, Aliso Viejo is a sleepy town with a rich history dating back to 1853 when prospectors discovered large deposits of gold at the mouth of the nearby Santa Ana River. The area that now makes up Aliso Viejo became part of Rancho Cucamonga in 1879 and later, Rancho El Centro de Cuernavaca. The first permanent settler in what is now Aliso Viejo was Phillip Hargrave who arrived on horseback from England in 1853. He named his rancho after Mount Diablo which he had seen from his home country. In 1878, David Sutter founded Sutter's Mill on the site of today's Pacific Electric Railway station and began processing gold ore from nearby mountains. By 1880, Sutter had built a small mill complex including four houses and two storehouses. Sutter soon realized that he needed more space to process his gold so he sold his land to James Irvine who started building an extensive brickyard on what is now Orchard Road in 1902. Irvine also developed a irrigation system for growing grapes and other crops on the property which became known as Irvine wine country because it produced some of the best wines in southern California. In 1909, businessman Augustus Saint John bought 1/3interest in Sutter's Mill from James Irvine for $10,000 dollars and renamed it Hughes Vineyards & Winery after his friend Hughes (founder of Paramount Pictures). In 1916, Hughes married Alice Babbitt (daughter of United States Senator George Babbitt) and moved their vineyards from Hollywood to present day Aliso Viejos where they were finally able to produce excellent wine without having to compete with appellations like Château Margaux or Château Lafite Rothschild. By World War II, Hughes Vineyards & Winery was one of America's leading viticultural companies export-wise with production totaling over three million gallons per year for many different brands such as Krug (Chardonnay), Bel Air (Riesling), Napa Valley (Lobster), Yarra Valley (Merlot) and Sonoma Coast ( Sauvignon Blanc ). The company closed its doors following the war but continued operations as a winemaking educational institution until its closure by University Distributed Processing Incorporated in 1984 following antitrust charges brought against them by then-Federal Trade Commission chairman William Dudley Dole Jr.).TodayHughes Vineyards & Winery operates primarily as a research farm conducting experiments with new grape varieties while maintaining close ties with winemaker Jim Weaver
