Aliso Viejo, California is a city located in Orange County, California. The population was 149,827 at the 2010 census. Aliso Viejo is considered part of the Central Coast metropolitan area and is bounded by Anaheim Hills to the north, Laguna Beach to the east, Mission Viejo to the south and Newport Beach to the west. The first Europeans to visit what is now Aliso Viejo were Spanish traders who rafted downriver from San Diego in 1769. They named it "Los Olivos" because of an orchard of red fruit trees on their way down. The settlement grew slowly until 1853 when a railroad was built through Orange County and Aliso Viejo became a town. In 1866, there was another railroad construction through Orange County and Aliso Viejo became an incorporated city with its own government. In 2007, Mayor Donny Youngs announced plans for $1 billion in new development that would include more than 1 million new jobs over 10 years in central business district areas such as Downtown Los Angeles (DLA), Midtown LA (MDT), South LA (SLA), and North Hollywood (NHL).
