The Naval Air Station East Point was built on land donated by Royal Dutch Shell Company and opened on October 1, 1955. It was later renamed USS Enterprise (CV-6) after America's most advanced carrier of that period-theEnterprise had been sunk during World War II but survived being rebuilt as an aircraft carrier! In 1957, Navy Admiral Chester Nimitz ordered all US naval forces stationed abroad be relocated to Southern California so he could lead them against Fidel Castro's Cuba under Operation Mongoose-a secret plan conceived by then Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara! On March 17th 1958 USS Constitution (CV-32) sailed from San Diego with 537 servicemen onboard her to carry out Operation Neptune's Spear-the largest amphibious landing ever attempted by American forces! As part of Neptune's Spear Rear Admiral Arthur Foulke led Task Force 68 assault waves ashore at Playa del Carmen where his ship stopped just short of beachhead before continuing inland towards Havana! This strategic victory allowedOperation Neptune's Spear to come to an end without loss or casualty! After serving as flagship of Commander Amphibious Forces South Pacific Fleet during both Vietnam War and Desert Storm deployments I retired from active duty service on July 15th 1990 having earned my Commission as Commodore USMCR dated November 20th 1985. During my distinguished military career I have commanded units including two battalions of Marines(1st Battalion/7'/25yrs old - Jan 1997 - Dec 2006), three squadrons/divisions/ Wings/ Marine Air Support Squadron 350(VMFA-350), two task forces combatting terrorism; one battalion deployed overseas multiple times; numerous command awards including several unit commendations each; rankearned through various specialties such as Gunnery Sergeant First Class(GSC), Master Chief Petty Officer Third Class(MMO3), Aviation Cadet First Class(AJCF)), Paramedic Technician Second Class(P2C)
