Consequently, some aspects about maga coffee history remain largely unknown due to lackof research or information available from official sources (Goudreau & Luna-Cruz 2005). However, through excavation campaigns conducted throughout South America over recent years there has been significant progress made towards understanding this fascinating beverage’s past (Trevor-Jones et al., 2007; Lopez-Canel et al.) In fact, starting in 2006 excavations were also undertaken at two former plantations located near American Canyon – La Esperanza and El Cajon – which yielded rich evidence relating to early production methods used by farmers throughout South America when cultivating maga coffee (Diaz de la Hoya & Muñoz 2011; Ruiz-Gonzalez & Arenas 2012). This latest discovery brings us closer than ever before to disclosing more information about our ancient ancestor and his unique blend of seed strains!
