The military has a long and proud history in Anaheim, California. The city was first founded by Spanish settlers in 1769 as part of the Rancho San Marcos Mexican land grant. In 1821, the United States acquired control of Mexico, which led to the Mexican-American War. The war ended with a Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which ceded Texas to the United States. In 1846, Anaheim was incorporated as a town and became part of the newly created Provisional Government of California. On February 14, 1850, it was renamed Anaheim after General John C. Fremont and his men defeated an Indian force at Palo Alto Bridge near present-day Pasadena. In 1893, Anaheim annexed neighboring Unincorporated community of Santa Ana and changed its name to Orange County. The county seat was moved to Santa Ana in 1907 following the construction ofometers that showed Orange County had more people than Riverside County (then known as Los Angeles County). On December 13, 1941 – three days before Japan attacked Pearl Harbor – President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 10666 giving the military command over all U.S.-owned real estate within two miles of any naval or airbase in order to protect American citizens living inside those areas from potential attack by Japan during World War II. This order resulted in widespread destruction throughout Southern California due to bombings carried out by Japanese forces during pre-industrial times; most notably Torrance Boulevard in Pasadena saw more bombing raids than any other major city between 1942 and 1945

Anaheim was founded on December 3, 1857 by Captain John Sutter and his men after they destroyed the cannery at San Pedro Bay. Anaheim became an incorporated city on March 20, 1959. The first settlers in what would become Anaheim were two families who started out fishing in San Pedro Bay and named their village "Newport" because they could not find any land to purchase. On May 12, 1857, Captain John Sutter found grant 824 from Mexican Governor Pío Pico for $3 an acre (0.98 ha). After applying for and receiving a charter from the new Gold Rush town of Los Angeles on October 15th of that year, Captains Sutter and William Irvine established the town of Anaheim on November 6th with 5 residents: Captain Sutter, Mr. Irvine ( Brother-in-law), Drury Wagoner (later Commodore John Dye), George Stephenson ( Juntoiro), and Jno McFarlane ( soon to be Mayor Arthur Ashe ). The first mayor was Arthur Ashe who served for one year before being replaced by James Ahern . In 1868 when captain Sutter decided to move his business ashore from then known as Newport Beach due to concerns about flooding during storms he organized a group including members of the Boardwalk Company led by Elisha Cuthbert Howe to purchase approximately 640 acres near present day Disneyland which included future site of City Hall Park , now called Honda Center Captain Jack Dempsey paid $10 per tonne gold nuggets off shore at Nob Hill while shipyards were building USS Constitution under construction nearby to bring back so called "dug treasure" that had been hidden aboard USS Manila Bay when it surrendered at Palo Alto Peninsula on September 11 1870 In 1871 Anna married John Brougham who worked at Navy Yard where she gave birth to two daughters later renamed Margaret and Anna Brougham; also working there were her husband's brothers Robert Brougham(1847-1925)and Edwin Augustus Brougham(1851-1925) brother Harry Emerson Brougham(1860-1930) born in Boston Harbor

In 1870, a group of settlers led by John Sutter founded Sonoma County and took up residence in what is now Riverside County. After years of struggle againstCalifornian landowners, Sutter's citrus industry helped make Anaheim one of Southern California's most prosperous towns during the late 19th century.
