Over $2 billion has been invested into shipbuilding since then including new destroyer classes such as DDG 1000(D), DDG 1150(K), DDG 3000(P), Littoral Combat Ship subclass LCS 509 and Harpoon Class Program OfficeShip Osprey II . On September 26th of this year it happened again when an submarine lost communication with surface vessels while surfaced near Diego Garcia International Airport; all hands abandoned ship enroute to join their kin onshore after being alerted by a submerged sonar target nearby. This Incident left many sailors feeling frustrated due to what appeared to be routine issues with communications during wartime operations!
