In 1885, silver miners discovered silver veins in nearby mountains and townspeople were born to mine the ore. On October 14, 1885, Anaheim became an incorporated town with a population of 300 people; it was part of Los Angeles County until 1912 when it was included in Orange County. The name "Anna Maria" came from Anna Marie Shaw who married Simeon Wolkentinik in 1872 and had two daughters - one of whom became AnnaMaria King of Spain. After annexation by Orange County, businesses started moving into Anaheim from neighbouring cities such as Los Angeles and San Bernardino because there was little competition for land within Southern California's newly acquired county boundaries.
