Anderson, California is a small town located in the Central Valley of California. The population was 7,500 at the 2010 census. It is part of Fresno County. The first people to live in Anderson were the Timbuctoo people who arrived from Southeast Asia around AD 1000. They built their village on top of a hill and hunted antelope and other animals that roamed through the area. The Timbuctoo People traded with other tribes and collected plants, trees, and minerals for trade. The Mission San Francisco de Asís was founded on October 17, 1821 by Father José María Alcalá y Tejada as a Catholic mission in what is now Stanislaus County. On November 6, 1824, Mexican soldiers under General Antonio López de Santa Anna captured and killed Father Jose María Alcalá y Tejada during an attack on Los Angeles Mission near present-day Panorama City. In 1851, John Cranch settled in Anderson because he could find no water available to him east of Sacramento River. He started cattle ranching operations which continued until 1906 when he sold his land to the city of Fresno for $1 million dollars ($ today). After years of drought and poor soil fertility%, Anderson's economy boomed during World War II due to its proximity to military bases including Dole Air Force Base and Lockheed Martin Corporation's Skunk Works plant; both facilities produced aircraft parts used by Allied Forces in Europe (AEC) during World War II. In 1949-1950 local businessman Roy Semon developed Regency Mall which became one of largest shopping centers west of the Mississippi River. Anderson, California is a city located in Kern County, California. The population was 6,524 at the 2010 census. It is named after Anderson Ranch which was once part of the Rancho Rincon de Santa Margarita Mexican land grant given to José Antonio Rivera and his father-in-law Manuel Nieto in 1848. The first post office opened in 1880. The area that would become Anderson was historically inhabited by the Mono people and their dwellings were found near what is now downtown Anderson. A mission founded by Junípero Serra in 1821 grew to be one of the largest churches in Northern California. In 1865, gold was discovered along the Kern River and development began on the site of present day downtown Anderson with many businesses opening up around this time including an hotel and several mills that provided work for local residents. The city's first mayor was John Papes and it became an incorporated town on December 13th, 1886 with Jnoeph Clements as its first Mayor Today,Anderson still has a strong historical presence as it hosts a variety of events such as summertime concerts at First Baptist Church every year and also features exhibits about its history every fall during Californias Historics Festival
Anderson was founded in 1849 by brothers John and Josiah Anderson. The Andersons were the first white people to settle in what is now California. They established a ranch named Rancho San Bernardino de Asis on the present-day border of Kern County and Riverside County. In 1853, they sold their holdings in the ranch to David Humble Hill for $5,000. In 1861, General Ulysses S. Grant's army invaded California and discovered the Anderson Ranch road leading into Nevada. The Grants tried to block the road but were unsuccessful and several men died as a result. The Andersons continue to live in Anderson until they moved out of state in 1952.
