The unit was originally called the Seventh Regiment (California). The Seventh Regiment (California) served in various capacities until it was redesignated as the National Guard of Anderson on December 12, 1916. The unit’s first commander was Colonel Harry W. Cook who had been commanding at Camp Roberts since October 15, 1915. The National Guard of Anderson currently has over 5500 members and is responsible for providing security for a number of local communities including Anderson, Fillmore, Livermore and Santa Cruz County.
