Anderson is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 2,549 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Joaquin Valley region. The first people to live in what is now Anderson were the Anasazi who built villages onslopes above Coyote Creek and other smaller streams. The village of Tanachihi was abandoned about 12,000 years ago and has never been found again. A pre-historic Pomo Indian settlement also existed near present day Anderson, but it is not known for certain when or where it ceased existence. The land that would become Anderson was granted to Francisco Vasquez in 1836 by Rancho Cañon de Santa Clara, one of California's largest ranchos. The grant included 640 acres (2 km²) of today's town site including Coyote Creek and parts of present day Kern County. According to legend, Antonio Canepa, president of Alta California under Mexican rule, ordered General Mariano Castro to burn down Vasquez' rancho due to financial troubles associated with his war efforts against American forces occupying Mexico City. Anderson's founding date is unknown; however some sources claim that it may have occurred as early as 1837 when Captain John Cranch discovered oil shale reserves northeast of present day Rancheria Road in what is now Basin Canyon National Monument(). Captain Cranch named the area "Coyote" after an Ohlone Native American chief he met while exploring these resources south of Coalinga (now Visalia). Some early residents included charter member Isaac Babcock who arrived in 1847 from Illinois; soon thereafter local miners began arriving with gold fever carrying over from east coast diggings sites such as Telluride and many others along the US-Mexican border during this period (). A post office called Coyote had been established at this location on May 8th1846 by Captn John Cranch (). On November 6th 1860 a new Post Office was opened at Polecat Creek following establishment of Hayden Valley Company which served mining camps across the valley like Knob Hill () and then White Sands (). In 1865 Monitor Lake became Fillmore Lake after being dammed by orderof Gov Manuel Diaz creating Fillmore Valley reservoir which impounded Big Hole River making it difficult for travelers wading its length.. In 1880 a section north around mile marker 149 became Orchard Heights subdivision just east off Hwy 36w within city limits

Anderson, California is a small town in San Mateo County, California. The population was 709 at the 2000 census. It is located on the grounds of Stanford University. The name Anderson is derived from "Andersen's Bay" which means "Island of Peace" in honor of Rear Admiral John A. Andersen who founded the town in 1876. The first Europeans to visit this area were Spanish missionaries and others working for the Mexican government in 1821-24 when they discovered an island in what is now known as Andersen Bay named Santa Cruz de la Laguna (“St. Francis Island”). In 1851, US Commodore George Henson charted it as part of his survey for Governor David Yarnall and submitted it to Congress for land grants that year but no action was taken until 1861 when Senator David Willey laid its foundation stone with local help. In 1860, James Fenton acquired a parcel on shoreline east of present day Anderson and began building a small cabin called Fenton's Campground which he used until 1870 when he built the first store and post office within what we now know as Anderson Township (the townsite being laid out by Nathan Salkin about 1850). This early settlement grew slowly due to many factors including lack of transportation, limited water supplies and potential conflicts over land titles with other claimants/owners coming upriver from Point Reyes National Seashore through Jenner Creek valley between present day Benicia and Antelope Valley before entering San Francisco Bay near Point Reyes National Seashore just south of today’s Daly City or north-northwest of today’s Hayward. In 1886 Captain Hiram Steele established Fort Atkinson on an uninhabited cape extending into what is now downtown Anderson while at the same time exploring lakebed resources along Jenner Creek Valley where he found chalcedony nodules bearing evidence of Early Earth history dating back 4 billion years ago! These were followed by several more mines from 1888 until 1912 when all production stopped because quality control problems with natural gas drilling caused extensive gas leakage which led to public outcry and passage by then Congressman Austin “Buddy” Chapman (D-San Francisco) of legislation amending federal law authorizing prompt payment for claims against any natural gas producer associated with Paige Field - Act No 99-433 REVOKED after 21 months!! Although some payments were made prior to this revocation, most operations ceased thereafter resulting in economic hardship for many families who lost their jobs during that 21 month period !! It wasn't until 1915 that another large prospector named Harry Smith discovered significant quantities turquoise and turquoise lazuli while prospecting offshore off North Beach adjacent to Geary Boulevard (now Donner Avenue) - thus enabling him to become one of America's first millionaire miners !! In 1916 Captain Wm Condon organized a group led by J P McCloskey consisting mostly college graduates from Northern California under Captains Frederick Olson & Alanson Cook entitled “The United States Geologists Expedition To The Mother Lode Of Diamonds And Related Minerals Near Essequibo Mines By way Of The Central Pacific Railroad Company At My Rancho Rio Seco From February 20th To April 15th 1916″ their primary objective being “to map out new mining prospects near Essequibo Mines having regard thereto relations existing between those properties concerned…and ourselves since our arrival therefrom last November 25th 1915″ However little progress was made due largely toCaptains Condon & Cook themselves bickering incessantly about leadership responsibilities etc….. Finally On or About January 1st 1917 Captains Condon & Cook resigned their commissions effective immediately due essentially to differences regarding treatment they had been getting from Commanding Officers ashore………. As a result almost all exploration activities ended up abandoned during 1916-17 season leaving Essequibo Mines unoccupied…………….. Although there have been occasional visits over recent decades by members of various geological societies both amateur & professional none have resulted in any major discovery.................. Today only 2 buildings remain standing housing original structures erected around 1865: Store Building #1&2 constructed close alongside creek bank soon after incorporation; Post Office House #3 not yet extant
