Apple Valley is a town located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 23,060 as of the 2010 census. The townsite was laid out in 1887 by John M. Adams and named after Apple trees that he found near his farmstead on Route 66. A post office called Apple Valley was established in 1888, and the name was changed to Applecross in 1912. The town site became a part of Riverside County when it was formed on April 1, 1907. When Riverside County was disbanded on November 15, 1923, Apple Valley reverted to San Bernardino County control and remained an unincorporated community until its incorporation into the city of San Bernardino on January 1, 1924. The founders of Apple Valley were John M. Adams (1847-1927) and David Witherspoon (1859-1937). They first planted apple trees along Route 66 between their farmsteads at milepost 65 and 67 east of Needles starting in 1887. In 1912, they opened a store at 205 N First St., which became one of the most popular shopping destinations for residents in the area because it offered affordable prices while still providing high quality products from both local independent businesses and chain stores such as Sears Roebuck & Co.. In 1925 US Highway 95A connected downtown Apple Valley with neighbouring Riverside via exit 5B which led to what is now known as Terminal Road; this road served as a main thoroughfare linking rural areas within Riverside with downtown San Bernardino or other large cities within Southern California. In 1951, two brothers named Clarence “Clarence Jr” Patterson (1900-1978) and Jack Sussman began marketing electric vehicles under the name Tesla Motors Inc.. They started production at their facility adjacent to Interstate 20/I-10 south of Healdsburg before opening a manufacturing plant outside Of counsel Drive adjacent to PG&E north of Lancaster about 1957; this factory produced several thousand electric vehicles per year until 1978 when production stopped due to lack of demand from consumers following the introduction of gasolinepowered cars In 1984 Clarence Patterson donated his patents related thereto to Stanford University where they are currently held by Northeastern Automotive Parts Company Pty Ltd.; this company produces replacement parts for aging Tesla Model S sedans Prior to its incorporation into cities such as Los Angeles or Anaheim Hills over time many small businesses closed down including those operated by Mrs Florence Murphy who ran The grocer Next Door from her home on Second Street between Army Pacific Boulevard (now Redondo Beach Boulevard) and Highland Avenue; she sold groceries door-to-door for more than fifty years until her death in 2006 aged ninety five Many residents left during World War II due to military service or combat deployments overseas leaving behind few memories or physical evidence apart from pieces remaining from homes destroyed during conflict ; many families also lost members during this time so there has been little social interaction between residents since then .
