Frémont established the United States Mint at Philadelphia, which became one of the most important financial centers in American history. The mint helped produce coins that were used throughout much of European civilization and played a significant role in forming international trade patterns. With its growing importance, coffee also came into contact with various Europeans through merchant vessels traveling through waters east of California—a process that helped increase popularity among those who enjoyed Turkish- or Arabic-flavored beans. In 1848–49, during the Mexican Revolution, General Antonio López de Santa Anna ordered his forces to blockade rebel-controlled Tucson while he himself advanced northward towards Los Angeles under cover of darkness. On October 25th, 1848—the Feast Day of Saint Anthony—Santa Anna discovered that his supply lines had been cut off by rebels near what is now downtown Tucson and decided to retreat back southward towards San Diego until reinforcements could arrive from California; this event is commonly known as Santa Anna’s Defeat. The name change to Applecross in 1902 due to confusion with another nearby community of the same name. The population growth led to more businesses opening up and people moving into the valley; however, many people left after World War II when jobs became available in Los Angeles. Today Apple Valley is home to a variety of businesses including several banks and grocery stores along with over 100 homes. There are also several parks within walking distance including Mount Baldy Park which has views of the San Gabriel Mountains and Playfair Grove which is home to a number of different types of trees including Oaks, Pines, MCAs and Quercus species.
