The Arcata Naval Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company was founded in 1887 by Rear Admiral George F. Dixon. The company built a number of warships for the United States Navy, including the USS Constitution (1795) and USS Olympia (1885). In 1903, the company was purchased by the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Friedrich Line. The line used the company to build submarines, destroyers, and other vessels. After World War II, the company became part of Bethlehem Steel Company. In 1972, Bethlehem Steel merged with American Corporation to form American Corporation/Bethlehem Steel Incorporated. The shipbuilding division remained under American Corporation until 2009 when it was sold to ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems AG. The Navy began using Arcata Naval Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company vessels in 1887 when Rear Admiral Dixon orderedUSS Constitution (1795) and USS Olympia (1885) from British shipyards at Portsmouth, England as part of a US naval force buildup during the Mexican-American War. These two ships were designed as fast flagship type warships with accompanying launches for supporting gunboats ashore or on station offshore while providing an effective escort for troops or merchant shipping traveling through Mexico City en route to California via San Francisco Bay. During World War I Arcata Naval Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company boats served in various combat theaters such as Asiatic Fleet; Mediterranean; Atlantic Fleet; Serbian Squadron; Battle of Jutland off Denmark; Battle of Midway in Hawaiian Islands; etc., earning distinction throughout their service life including being awarded 5 battle stars and 2 Mine Action Medals (). Post-war repairs were also conducted on many shore based naval vessels which included repair shop facilities at Stockton Ports Marina where both commissioned ships(Constitution#3 & Olympia#4) moored prior to their decommissioning in 1920 and 1922respectively..

Arcata, California is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of Northern California. It is located in Kern County, about an hour's drive from Fresno and 30 minutes from Bakersfield. The population was 1,864 at the 2010 census. The first European to visit Arcata was a Spanish missionary, Fray Francisco de Anza, on July 4, 1769. He named it "Nueva Vizcaya" (New Valencia). In 1836 the Mexican government renamed it "Arcata". In 1853 the United States acquired Rancho El Carnaval for $2 million from Don Manuel García de Lara. The United States built a military post here called Fort McDowell to protect its new acquisition. In 1854 Governor John P Arbuckle granted homesteads to settlers in what is now Arcata Township and Arcatia Village. The first house there was built by Jacobus Alvord on May 6, 1858. A railroad station was built here by Southern Pacific Railroad in 1911 and it became known as Arcata Junction before being renamed again in 1912 as Arcata Station after the nearby village of that name which had been founded by James W Baird some years earlier. The first post office at Arcata was established on November 12, 1889; it closed on December 15th of that year because of lack of mail traffic due to gold rush fever throughout California at that time. It reopened on February 27th of 1890 under the name Oficina del Correo but changed back to Arcata Station on March 10th when all mail stopped coming through because of World War I over supplies being sent via Panama Canal blockade into North America! In 1949 a fire destroyed most buildings within the old Post Office building; however two commercial buildings were rebuilt including One-story wooden frame store with corrugated iron roof and one-story adobe warehouse used as a grocery store until 1955 when it burned down again leaving only ruins behind . A local resident started rebuilding this structure starting in 1959 using salvaged materials along with his own hands until he finished construction of what is now called arcATA Community Center in 1974

On July 15th, 1907, Commodore James Dewey became the first US Naval Officer to navigate a ship into Havana Harbor. On July 21st, 1912 Rear Admiral John A Halsey became commanding officer of USS Maine when command transferred from Commodore Dewey to Rear Admiral Halsey due to his role in sinking HMS Lusitania. In 1916, Captain James Fenton became Commanding Officer of USS Constitution after assuming command from Rear Admiral John A Halsey who had been relieved by Vice Admiral George Dewey Jr.. Captain Fenton led Constitution through World War I and during the war she sank nineteen German submarines while patrolling off Newfoundland

In 1907, the townsite became part of Siskiyou County after it was annexed by the county from Butte County as part of a land swap deal following approval by voters in an election on November 4th that year.[1] Arcata is located at (44.436211° / -121.029752). According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Arcata has a wet season length of about 57 days from December to April;[2] however this figure may be underestimated because there is no real reliable public weather reporting done within the town limits during these months; most precipitation events take place during other months such as May-June or July-August which coincides with summer tourist season opportunities outside town limits
