In 1927–28 El Paso Electric Company built a200 foot high transmission line across Cedar Mesa Creek which ran through downtown into west Kern county making Artesia become an incorporated city with full voting rights in 1928 In 1931 Edison Donnelley bought out Pacific Gas & Electric Company’s share of Artesia Municipal Utility District #2 providing local electricity until 1941 when Westinghouse bought out Edison Donnelley’s share In 1951 PG&E merged with Southern Pacific Railroad creating Los Angeles Rapid Transit Authority which provided bus service across downtown into east Kern county

Custer's men were searching for another route south to supplies when they came across the gold mine at Sutter's Mill on July 7th.
