In 1926 Bechtel merged with Shaw and Company to become Bechtel Corporation (laterBechtel Group). The company's headquarters were located in downtown Artesia until 1984 when it moved to nearby Inglewood Colorado. In 2007, the company announced that it would close its doors effective January 1st due to competitive pressures from other companies within its industry.
