In 1861, Artesia became a part of the newly formed Nevada Territory and remained so until 1912 when it joined the enlarged new state of California. In 1916, Artesia became an unincorporated community within San Bernardino County and has remained that way ever since except for some limited annexations to other nearby communities such as Riverside and Westminster during the last century or so.
