The Arvin Air Force Base is home to the United States Air Force's 6th Bomb Wing, which was activated on October 1, 1942. The wing was originally headquartered at nearby Fairbanks Army Air Field. The 6th BW flew bombers during World War II, playing a major role in both the Battle of Midway and the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. In 1957, the wing shifted its base from Fairbanks to Arvin and began flying Northrop Grumman F-5E/F Super Eagles. In 1966, the wing became operational with McDonnell Douglas A-6 Intruder aircraft. From 1990 to 1992, the wing transitioned to Boeing C-17 Globemaster III aircraft. The air force remains active and operates several types of attack helicopters including AH-64D ApacheHawks and MH-60R Black Hawk helicopters as well as KC-135Rs Stratotankers and EADS EC130s Sprinters.
One of the most important aspects of any air force deployment is ensuring that everyone in the unit is aware of what is happening. This can be done by having a clear communication plan and ensuring everyone knows when something special has happened. Additionally, it is important to ensure that all gifts are brought to the deployed unit as soon as possible so they can be used or given to those who need them most.
The Arvin Air Force Reserve Base deployed a gift history in 1992. The base gave away military-grade radios and headsets to employees as part of the "Gift of the Grapes" program.
Arvin, California is located in the Central Valley of California. The population was 9,872 at the 2010 census and it is the most populous city in Kern County. It is also the most populous city in Los Angeles County. Arvin was founded by prospectors in 1849. The first post office at Arvin was established on July 1, 1850. The name of Arvin comes from a Yuma Apache chief named Arapaho who ranched there during the 1800s. In 1853, Jesse James Menard organized a cattle drive through central California that passed through Arvin and other towns near Kern Valley. This event helped to spur economic development in Arvin and nearby towns including Bakersfield, Salinas, and Stockton. The first oil well drilled into Kern County was located in what is now Arvin on April 10, 1916 by J P Morgan & Co under contract with Chevron Oil Company (now ChevronTexaco). The oil well failed but later production resumed from this well with help from government subsidies given to Standard Oil of California (now ExxonMobil) which had leased land adjacent to the original drilling site

Arvin, California is a small town located in the far north of the state of California. The first white person to settle this area was Capt. George Armstrong Custer who arrived in 1847. The town was organized on February 15, 1850. Arvin was named for captain Arvin, an American Revolutionary War cavalry officer and fur trader who died in 1848 while searching for a new home for his family. The post office at Arvin served from 1850-1859 and from 1861-1867. It reopened on October 1, 1870 under the name of Summit City and continued to serve until it closed on December 5, 1969. The first store built in Arvin was the Jardine wagon shop which operated from 1851-1858. In 1860, there were only six residents living in the community with a total population of just over seventy people. By 1870 there were three stores, one schoolhouse and eighty eight households with a total population of two thousand four hundred thirty nine people. In 1875 John Sutter opened what would become known as the biggest grocery store in Northern California when he purchased land at present day Alpine Meadows east of town limits and built him his first store which became known as Sutter's Depot (now part of Arrowhead Mall). This store would remain open until 1914 when it burned down due to arson by local youths! In 1906 Wm Henson started work at the sawmill that would later be renamed Henson’s Mill after its founder! By 1920 there were twenty five businesses operating within Arvin boundaries including five banks, twelve churches, six libraries and sixteen residences! By 1930 there were forty seven businesses operating within its limits with fifteen banks and nineteen churches! Businesses have since declined since then with only four extant businesses remaining today within its boundaries - all three attributable to Alpine Meadows mall! Arvin is best known locally for being birthplace to Captain George Armstrong Custer who fought during World War I near here while also serving as Sheriff of Modoc County before returning stateside in 1919 where he died aged seventy one years old on January 7th 1918 near here prior to his battle against German forces at Rosebud Ridge Battlefield some ten miles northeast of town center where he lost his life during what is still considered one of America's most significant battlefield losses ever!
Arvin was founded in 1859 by James A. Arvin and his brother-in-law, Hiram Cobb. It became a town after it was platted in 1871 by the two brothers. The town was named for James Arvin, who had lost an arm in the Mexican–American War and later served as a U.S. congressman from California.
