The Arvin National Guard Armory was built in 1911 and is now the oldest armory in California. The gift history of this armory can be traced back to that year, when it was donated by Major General A.F. Haggerty to the town of Arvin. It was used as a barracks until 1942, when it was converted into an armory andNational Guard unit training facility. In 1951, the armory became a branch of the California National Guard and remained so until 1959, when it became part of the state's military forces structure. The present day armory is located on State Highway 246 in Arvin and is open to the public for visitation purposes.
Arvin is a small town in California located on the Trinity River. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. Arvin is home to the Arvin Academy, which offers charter and private school education. The history of Arvin can be traced back to 1859 when it was part of Rancho San Marcos. In 1896, the town was organized as a post office with the name of Downsville. When California became an state in 1850, Downsville became part of Bakersfield and thence moved to Arvin in 1857. In 1906, when California became a US state, Arvin incorporated as a city under the name of Downsville proper. In 1915, after World War I ended and new boundaries were created for California cities by the state Legislature, Downsville reverted to its original name while Arvin continued to be called Downsville until it merged with nearby Pico Rivera into one city in 1959. Today’sArvin is located on both sides of the Trinity River where pioneer settlement began in 1861-1863 by John Wesley Powell and others who mined gold near present-day Downes Adobe (now known as Rubenita). From 1861-1865 most operations were conducted from two small dumps about one mile below present day downtown; however there were also larger mines at Horseshoe Bend (southwest corner), Folsom Gulch (northwest corner) and Willows Flat (east side). A large lead mine opened near present day Downes Adobe in 1865 but closed within seven years due to lack of ore quality and competition from other operators encountered along stream bed upstream including: Owens Valley Lead Mines & smelters built at Fruitvale (1910), Mining Hill & Phelps Dodge Gold Rush Mill(1915), United States Steel Company facility constructed at what is now Old Town Pasadena(1920). After World War II production declined because much lead had been replaced by aluminum alloys; however some old workings are still used today for processing agricultural products such as hay or watermelons There have been several surface mining skirmishes over control of valuable mineral rights since early days when prospectors traveled down river each year seeking new deposits!

Arvin, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. The population was 5,827 at the 2000 census. It is located in Kern County. The valley that now includes Arvin was first inhabited by the Mono people who lived there for thousands of years. Many of these people are buried in the nearby San Joaquin National Forest and parts of the nearby Kern County Agricultural Land Reserve. In 1866, prospectors discovered rich silver mines here and soon Arvin became one of the most important towns in central California. The area's economy boomed as miners came to Arvin from all over America to find new sources of silver and gold. By 1900, however, factories had sprung up throughout downtown Arvin and much of the surrounding countryside; jobs were no longer available for many residents outside of their homes. In World War II, Arvin played an important role helping to produce ammunition for both sides in Europe. After the war ended, many businesses closed down and few new ones started up; however, some local farmers did manage to keep some agriculture going until around 1970 when they went out of business too (due to changes in farming practices). Today,Arvin is still a small town with a strong community spirit – it has been voted "Best Place To Live" by various publications including "Los Angeles Times", "USA Today", and "Zocalo". There are also several restaurants and bars located within walking distance as well as a variety of stores offering supplies for local farmers markets
