Arvin has been a military town for as long as anyone can remember. The first military installation in the area was Fort Yuma, which opened in 1878. The town's relationship with the military has been a part of its identity ever since. During World War II, Arvin played an important role in the Battle of Midway, and during the Vietnam War, it was home to the 7th Marine Regiment which fought against North Vietnamese forces. Today, Arvin continues to play a major role in our local defense system. It is home to both the California Army National Guard and the California Air National Guard; both of which provide homesported service members with essential supplies and training opportunities. The Armed Forces Community Services Center provides support to local businesses that do business with military members and their families. In addition to its role in our defense system, Arvin also plays a significant role in our history. The city was founded on October 15th, 1888 by developer Jeptha Leland Warner who donated land for a post office and school district. In 1951, Arvin became one of fifty-one communities located withinSonoma County that were consolidated into Santa Rosa County under new county government boundaries. Today, Arvin remains an integral part of Santa Rosa County and its cultural landscape is made up largely from products grown or manufactured within its borders - including wine grapes from Sonoma Valley appellations such as Zinfandel and Chardonnay; apples from Mendocino County; cheese from Solano County; eggs from Amador County; coffee beans from Shasta County; cottonseed oil from Trinity Valley); among other items

The Arvin 4th Infantry Regiment was organized on April 25, 1881 at the City of Arvin and mustered into the Union Army on that date. The regiment served until July 15, 1886 when it was mustered out. The regiment lost 1 officer and 36 enlisted men in action during its service.
The towns of Arvin and Redding were founded in the early 1800s on the crest of a hill overlooking the Sacramento River. The area now known as Arvin was one of numerous missions and ranchos given to settlers by Mexican president José Joaquín de Urrea in 1846. In 1851, following the Bear Flag Rebellion, Mexico ceded California to the United States, resulting in an influx of American settlers. At first many of these people arrived byboat from Panama; but soon railroads made travel more convenient. In 1875, a group of residents led by John Sutter moved from their original homestead on El Sobrante Creek to what is now Arvin. The town was named for General George Armstrong Custer who died at Yountville during the Black Hawk War. Many famous Californians have lived or worked in Arvin including: James Hutton (physician), Ezra Pound (writer), and Lillie Prewitt Cobb (wife of publisher Willard Pulitzer). Today, Arvin is a thriving small town with a population over 200 residents and offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, biking, and skiing. It is also home to two colleges-Arvin College and Stanislaus Valley Community College-and several restaurants and businesses.

Arvin is a small town in California, located on the San Joaquin River. The Arvin post office was established in 1887, and has been in operation continuously since then. It is one of the oldest post offices in California. The population of Arvin was 2,811 as of 2010. The first settler in what is now Arvin was William Higgs, who built a cabin on the banks of the river in 1887. He and his family were the first to live there, and it would be another sixty years before another person set foot here. In 1906, Gold Rush fever had arrived in California and many people decided to head for Sacramento to find work during the gold rush period. One such man was John Drysdale, who purchased property at present-day Arvin from James Newhall for $10 per acre (about $225 today). Drysdale named his new land Rancho Viejo after José Vázquez de Coronado's 1520 expedition that discovered Nevada County while exploring North America north of Mexico City. Drysdale soon realized that his land could not support more than a few hundred people at a time and began building houses and businesses as well as developing irrigation systems. In 1916 he sold his holdings to J S Youngblood for $25 per acre ($625 today). By 1922 Youngblood had developed an agricultural complex which included 400 acres (16 hectares) of irrigated farmland; it would be home to some of the most famous farmers involved with agriculture including George Gibbs, Clarence King Cottonseed Oil Company president Alfred Pritchard, W C Thornton & Sons truck drivers Harry Smithson and Roy Thurston among others. On July 8th 1932 residents voted by referendum to incorporation into Fresno County when it became clear that Kern County would not provide services necessary for its population growth such as water supplies or schools. The vote came about because Kern County refused to allocate money necessary for annexation into Fresno County despite pleas from Mayor Averill Harriman Sr., Jr.. As a result of this decision much valuable land within Arvin – including several miles (3 kilometers) of downtown – became part of Fresno when it joined the county. During World War II many men from nearby Shasta Lake worked at Fort Point Naval Arsenal where they produced munitions needed by Japan. Today remnants can still be seen aroundFort Point NWR - mostly composed of concrete barriers designed during World War II to keep personnel living off site away from civilians

The town grew rapidly and soon became an important agricultural center, with fruit orchards and cotton plantations dotting the landscape. Railroads arrived in the early 20th century, bringing more people and businesses to Arvin, which saw rapid growth in population and commerce until World War II. After the war, Arvin experienced a period of decline as its economy shifted to service industry jobs; however, it has since regained some stability and is now an attractive community with a diverse range of economic opportunities.
