Coffee has been present in Atascadero, California for many years. In 1876, J.C. Penney started selling coffee beans from his store on Main Street. The first paper cups were made of lead and sold for a nickel each. By 1907, the town had two cafes and 10 restaurants serving coffee and pastries to the public. In 1916, Atascadero became part of San Bernardino County and the first Starbucks opened in that county in 1984. In 1969, Atascadero's first drive-through window was opened by Rick's Coffee & Donuts on Foothill Boulevard adjacent to San Gabriel High School. Today there are over 150 Starbucks locations across CA with more planned to open in 2019! The popularity of coffee has never stopped here - even today, people continue to come into our town to purchase their morning cup of Joe!

Atascadero, California is located in the Mexican state of Baja California. As of 2010 it had a population of over 110,000 people and is the second largest city in Baja California. It is also one of the most ethnically diverse cities in Mexico. The city was founded by Antonio Atanasio Garza in 1834 as part of what would become modern-day Baja California. The original name for Atascadero was "Atenasco". In 1840, Garza changed the name to Atacama after discovering an area with rich gold mines. By 1853, Atacama had a population of 10,000 people and became the capital of Baja California. The city's growth continued until 1911 when it was destroyed by an earthquake that struck at about 5:30am PST on October 15th. Only 3% remains today due to destruction caused by fire over the years (see list below). In 1912, during World War I, Atascadero served as a naval air base for American forces stationed along Mexico's coastlines. After hostilities ended in 1918, many evacuees from Carretera Real began moving into Atascaderos homes and businesses. The following year saw record levels of housing development; more than 1 million people were living within 100 miles (160 kilometers) of downtown By 1922 there were more than 20 neighborhood councils scattered throughout the city limits with elected officials responsible for maintaining public order and providing social services such as health care and education opportunities to residents who did not have access to these amenities elsewhere. As one result of this rapid growth and involvement by government officials throughout both periods there were significant changes toAtascalos demographics composition which can be seen in various places within its boundaries including occupations (elderly women working as seamstresses or prostitutes), languages spoken (Spanish being predominant), religious affiliation (Masonic Temple having been open since 1797), poverty rates (lowest among all Mexican cities) and race/ethnicity groups (African Americans making up 25% of total population). Today much like then much Ofascadalorean life revolves around culture shock experiences while trying hard not to let outsiders see too much because they might think less favorably about their community when they leave; advertising has even taken on a cultural significance here creating something akin to "the hidden world" where secrets are kept behind closed doors

The first settlers in Atascadero were migrant workers from central Mexico who arrived in search of work on the newly opened Rancho Atascadero grant. In 1847, the town was organized as part of what would become the San Joaquin Valley. Its growth stemmed from its position as an agricultural center for the surrounding area, which became increasingly industrialized during World War I and II. Today, Atascadero is known for its agriculture and wine production, as well as its annual Festival de la Cancha (Festival of Cricket). The town also boasts a number of historical landmarks, including the original courthouse and jail complex, as well as several restaurants and bars.
