Atascadero began as a small town in the San Joaquin Valley in 1871. The first coffee grower, José Narváez, started roasting coffee beans in his home in 1872. By 1875, Atascadero had become one of the most important coffee growing towns in California. In 1902, Atascadero became the capital of California and its first city. In 1916, Atascadero was named the seat of Ventura County after it was chosen by county commissioners from various communities in the valley. During World War II, Atascadero was an important military base for the United States Air Force and later became a center for aerospace engineering research. The city also played a significant role during Jerry Brown's gubernatorial campaign and subsequent victory over incumbent George Deukmejian.
Atascadero, California is an unincorporated community located in San Luis Obispo County, California. Atascadero is on the Central Coast of California and about north of Paso Robles. The population was 1,036 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Santa Cruz metropolitan area. The first Europeans to see what is now Atascadero were sailing down the Pacific coast in 1769 when they sighted a large woody hill rising from the ocean about west of Point Conception. Captain James Cook named it "Eagle Point" after his ship, HMS Erebus, sighted land from this point on 21 July 1770. The name stuck and today's residents are probably descended from those who sailed by Eagle Point in that era. This location was also chosen as one of two sites for Mission San Francisco de Asís (the other being Monterey) because it had good harbor facilities and plenty of water supplies due to its position near Monterey Strait on the Pacific Ocean.. The town began as a small settlement around 1847 with only six people living there). By 1870 AtascadERO had developed into a thriving agricultural center with over 100 businesses including post offices, stores and hotels. The town prospered until 1900 when World War I destroyed most crop production in Northern California so much so that prices for food fell 50% or more during that time period In 1920 Atascadero lost its status as an agricultural center but continued to grow steadily thanks to new industrial development which included numerous auto parts plants, leathergoods factories and other heavy industry until 1970 when control passed from local companies to Silicon Valley entrepreneurs via mergers and acquisitions

Atascadero, California is a small town located in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 30,909 at the 2010 census. Atascadero is one of the oldest communities in Los Angeles County and has been inhabited for over two hundred years. The community rests on a hill above the Atascadero Creek which flows through it. In 1871, General Antonio López de Santa Anna founded what would become known as Rancho Viejo at present-day Atascadero. Santa Anna had come to Los Angeles from Mexico to help overthrow Mexican leader Pio Pico and gain independence for the United States of America. In 1872, he grant Rancho Viejo to his brother José Cártel y Aspepticos. José’s wife María Elena García acquired Rancho Rinconada in 1875 and named it Atascadero after her home village of Atenas, Greece. The first post office was established in 1881 at present-day Atascaderos Creek (then known as Rinconada). It was called San Francisco de la Laguna and served clientele from Mission Dolores until 1888 when the post office moved to its current location at Main Street and Fourth Avenue due to growing population growth in that area of town. In 1906, local businessman Edwin Hemsley bought 836 acres (309 hectares) of land east of town along Dry Creek Road for $5 per acre ($10 million then). His purchase brought him into competition with other developers who had purchased adjacent property around that time including Harry Chandler and Jules Bourgeois among others. That year also saw the construction of what is now City Hall Square across from Town Hall Park on Third Street between Main and Fifth Avenues. That building housed public services up until 1959 when it was replaced by City Hall Annex which still stands today across from Powerline Drive Elementary School on First Avenue north of Interstate 5 just past Powerline Drive). That same year also saw AtascadERO's incorporation as a city under Mexican rule following an effort led by Mayor Manuel Gomez Simón which gained approval from the Mexican government despite objections from some prominent citizens such as Don Enrique Osbornes who claimed that giving away cityhood would make life difficult for them should they be ousted from power by their constituents in a future revolution or election campaign They instead opted to secede form Mexico effective January 1st 1907 following an unsuccessful attempt by Governor Isidro Staronatto to have them elected unconstitutionally By referendum On October 25th 1907 however this did not stop many residents form voting Yes on Charter Amendment #2 asking For Thecity To Be Granted Municipal Status Which Was Approved By The Board Of Commissioners On November 6th 1907 With Ratification From Mayor Gomez Simón And Councilmembers Antonio Orozco And Ramón Ortiz Following This Votenikation City Government Became A Real Entity & Allowed To Hold Meetings Executive Sessions were Held InPrivate Rooms Overcome Difficulties Being Found In Having Public Buildings There After much Rehearing & Investigation It Was Ordered That City Halls Be Constructed Right Next To OurTownhall Park&City Market Affairs Were Incorporated Into OurLocalGovt So We Can Do Better Job Handling Community Functions Than Before .On February 15th 1912 Mayor Gomez Simón Died suddenly Without any Authorization Or Plan To Carry Out His Goals & Leftovers From His Government Ended Up InHis Place Acting Govt Determined To Keep Things Going Just Like It Always Has Been
The community of Atascadero, California was founded in 1847 by pioneers George and Elizabeth Atascadero. The Atascaderos were the first white people to settle in this area of present-day California. They named their new community after the pass that led from Mount San Jacinto to the Diablo Range. In 1850, they started a school in the town and built a church in 1851. The Atascadero Valley Gold Rush began in 1859 and ended about 1865. Most of the gold rush miners went to Nevada or Oregon.
