Atwater is a city in Marin County, California, United States. The population was 21,827 at the 2010 census. It is located on the north-central coast of Santa Cruz County and it is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. Atwater's ZIP code is 95121. The name Atwater comes from Anglo-Saxon "twataca" meaning "place where there are trees." The town was first settled in 1845 by John Atwater, who had arrived from Illinois as an employee of Humboldt County Land Commissioner David Jones. In 1851, Atwater built himself a small cabin on the bluff above present day State Route 1A (now US 101) to provide shade for his cattle and sell goods he manufactured from driftwood and cedar logs he collected near his cabin. In 1863, when Rancho Segundo Trust Co., including later portions of Carquinez Strait National Wildlife Refuge and parts of Point Reyes National Seashore were donated to the state by Drury Lane Oilman George Hearst for use as agricultural land withinEEI limits for ranching purposes only, Atwater contributed $5 per acre ($100 in ) to help defray expenses; this amount still represents a major contribution to California's public lands system today. On March 3rd 1865, during the American Civil War, Union forces burned down John Atwater's cabin while he slept after raiding his property for supplies necessary for his battlefront effort; this event helped start what would become known as 'The Era Of Fire'. In 1940 Leland Stanford Junior purchased Rancho Seco which included much of what now makes up Atwater Township including much of Point Reyes National Seashore; during World War II many local residents served in the U.S Navy or Armed Forces and some developments such as Naval Air Station North Island took form around that time frameincluding Naval Intelligence School which opened in 1944 adjacent to USCIS building now used as law enforcement headquarters). After World War II ended many workers left For good in 1946 with large sections of Point Reyes NFWS becoming unoccupied due largely to changes brought about by Postwar America including increased development opportunities along Highway 1A adjacent to NAS North Island making it difficult if not impossible for anyone other than government employees/Navy/Air Force personnel access those areas which made Forage Management possible era long

Atwater is located in the southcentral portion of California. The town was founded by John Atwater in 1859 and it grew rapidly due to its location, natural resources, and agriculture. Today, Atwater is a small community with a population of around 100 residents. John Atwater was born in 1827 in England and he immigrated to America in 1849. He started out as a farmhand but soon became successful thanks to his business acumen. In 1863, Atwater moved his business to what is now the downtown area of Atwater. He died in 1915 but his legacy lives on through his businesses and the community that he helped build. The first post office for atwater was established in 1860 and it continued operating until 1861. The town was platted on December 1st, 1859 by John Atherton with the name: "Atwaterville". The first public house opened up in 1861 and it served as the headquarters for many local businesses until it burned down in 1865. The first store that opened up within Atwater was called "Natchez" which opened up on May 12th, 1865. It stayed open until 1870 when it burned down agains arsonists. After that fire, another store called "Hollywood"opened up which served as the focal point for much of the growth of atwater during its early years. In 1886-87, an electric streetlight system was installed within Atwater and this led to many new development opportunities within the townspeople thanks to its lighting capabilities! By 1907, there were over 20 stores inside Ofatoona Avenue! In 1916-17, an additional grocery store named: "Cottonwood"was built which soon went out of business due to competition from better-funded stores throughout town! However, Cottonwood's legacy can still be seen today through its remains located just north of Main Street! In 1925-26 an elevator system was installed within town limits making transportation easier for residents! This also led to more development opportunities as people could now easily access their homes from anywhere within reach! By 1951-52, all but one of the original stores had been replaced with newer brick buildings! While some aspects have changed over time such as population size or fashion trends (eased restrictions placed on imported goods following World War II), overall AtWater has stuck relatively unchanged since its humble beginnings back sixty years ago...thankfully for those who appreciate history like John Atherton did
Atwater was founded on December 3, 1847 by George Atwater and his brother John Atwater. The brothers were entrepreneurs who had a vision of making the at-home laundry business successful. They initially opened a dry cleaning business but soon realized that they could also offer customers services such as laundry, Jarvis waxing service, and pet sitting. In 1863, the brothers partnered with their father to open The Atwater Hotel in downtown San Francisco. The hotel would become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city, hosting events such as the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 and becoming an early center for modern American culture. In 1926, The Atwater Hotel was sold to the luxury real estate company Colony Capital Corporation for $100 million. In 1933, The Atwater Hotel was destroyed by a fire that started in one of its ovens. This event left a lasting impact on downtown San Francisco and made it more geared towards tourists rather than locals. In 1941, The Atwaters merged with their father's business holdings to create George Hutton & Sons Hotels Incorporated which would continue to operate under this name until 1993 when it was acquired by Marriott Corporation. Today, many Of Water's original businesses still operate within Marriott hotels including Innate Dining (a restaurant chain), Parkside Realty (a real estate company), and Hutton Carpet Cleaning & Restoration (a carpet cleaning company).
