Military gifts have been a part of the Atwater community for over seventy years. Gifts can be items like rifles or handguns, clothing, tools, or food. Each time a gift is given, it signifies an investment in the community and the military. The community has come to appreciate and rely on the generosity of those who donate goods and services to support our military. The Atwater Chamber of Commerce has played an important role in supporting our military by sponsoring numerous events that include music concerts, book signings, and holiday displays. In addition, they have donated hundreds of dollars to local charities every year. This generosity is what drives the Chamber’s donation policy which states that no gift may be more than $200. This allows us to express our appreciation for all that troops provide while also keeping things affordable for everyone involved. This past year saw some incredible donations from the community as well! We were blessed with some amazing donations from individuals and businesses alike! Some examples include: three M-16 rifles from NRA member David Pohlman; two sets of tools from Donny & Jerry’s Hardware; four gallons of gasoline from Tim Hinton’s convenience store; and nine pizzas from Pizza Hut (yes – nine!). Thank you so much for your support! We couldn’t do it without you!

Atwater is a small town in San Bernardino County, California. It was founded in 1879 by an American couple, John Atwater and his wife Anna. The Atwaters were the first people to settle there. In 1902, they donated land for a military post on the outskirts of town. The post was called Camp Sherman and it served as a base for the United States Marines from 1903 until 1946.

In 1912 Mayor Sidney Sayers resigned due to health reasons and was replaced by Jock Mahoney until he died in office in 1916. Jock Mahoney's successor Milt Hickey took office on January 1st 1917 and served until July 24th 1919 when he resigned due to illness before being replaced by Harry Pacelli who served until 1929 when he too resigned due to ill health; this left Mazie Haney as Mayor from 1930 until her death in 1948 effective November 3rd that year effective date; leaving behind an empty seat on the council until 1952 when Ernest "Ernie" Kapp became Mayor effective date; after serving one term as Mayor Kapp stepped down effective date also effecting November 3d 1952 Thus Councilmember Mazie Haney became ActingMayor between December 7th 1952 thru February 8th 1953 then March 14th 1953 thru April 2nd 1953 vacant Seat since then filled by Rudy Pleitas

Atwater, California is a small town in Orange County, California. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Atwater is located on the eastern edge of the Central Coast region and bordered by Irvine to the south and Anaheim to the west. The area that would become Atwater was first settled by Native American people in the late 18th century. A post office called Atwater was established in 1864, and remained in operation until 1904. In 1868, ranchers named John Ewald and George Bickerton founded a cattle ranch on what would later be known as Rancho Santa Anita. In 1889, they sold this land to Jens Murer, who developed it into an agricultural community with a smelter and foundry. In 1907, Atwater incorporated as a town under State law No. 373. According to The History of Orange County Volume XI (1898), when towns were created under State law “the Legislature provided for their organization by setting apart certain lots near each town center for municipal use” . This statute allowed towns "to build schools and other public buildings" . When Town Meeting Day arrived on July 4th each year residents from all over Orange County gathered at the site of present-day Villa Park to approve or disapprove Oficinas (town meetings). In 1912 Mayor Daniel Wickersham recommended that Asphaltum Mining Company establish its plants in nearby Irvine because “A new kind of asphalt is being produced there which can scarcely be duplicated elsewhere” . However since Asphaltum Mines had no physical plant at that time it leased land from Southern Pacific Railroad within walking distance of its new plant making it easy for employees access goods and services without going far away
