Newcomb, and the couple moved to San Francisco. They had four children: Lorenzo Jr., Anna (b. 1872), Edwin (b. 1876), and Minnie (b. 1880). In 1898, the Atwaters bought an area of land around San Francisco Bay that became known as the Marina District; Lorenzo died in 1908 and Anna continued to live there until her death in 1960.
