Since the Azusa Army National Guard was established in 1892, members have donated items and services to support the military. The unit has a rich history that can be traced back to when it was established as an infantry regiment of the California Volunteer Cavalry. In 1894, the 1st Battalion, Azusa Cavalry Regiment became part of the 4th Infantry Division and fought in several wars including World War I. After World War II, the regiment served in various theaters of operations including Korea and Vietnam. Today, there are three battalions stationed in Azusa with a total of 1,200 soldiers. The Azusa Army National Guard Museum is located on State Route 395 east of downtown Azusa. It contains more than 2,000 artifacts from across the battalion’s history. The museum is open every day except Monday from 9am-5pm; admission is free for school groups or citizens who are over age 12 with an ID. In addition to its museum, the battalion also has a library which opened in 2006 adjacent to Camp Pendleton Naval Air Station. It contains more than 10,000 books on military history and culture as well as periodicals dating back to 1886. Additionally, there is a displays room which features models of tanks and artillery pieces from World War II as well as Native American artifacts from Jurassic Park III: Awakening!

The Azusa Army National Guard was organized on December 1, 1906. The unit was activated at the Fort MacArthur military installation southeast of San Francisco. The first Commander-in-Chief of the Azusa AAGN was Colonel John W. Buchanan. On July 15, 1912, the regiment was redesignated as an Infantry battalion and given a new name: "The Azusa Regiment". The regiment served in World War I from April to October 1917 Service including in France and Belgium with various battle fields including Arras, Vimy Ridge, and Passchendaele; In 1919 the regiment was redesignated as an Artillery battalion and again given a new name: "The Azusa Regiment Artillery." In 1930 this organization became called simply "TheAzusaAgnistry". From 1935 to 1940 it served as part of the California National Guard when it moved to Tucson Heights near Phoenix AZ where it remained until 1951 when it returned to San Francisco CA. In 1960 the regiment again moved to Tucson Heights returning permanently to San Francisco CA on August 14th which made us one of only two regiments in California that continued serving continuously through all six decades!
Azusa, California is located in the southern part of Los Angeles County and is bordered by Pasadena to the north, San Gabriel Valley to the east, and Simi Valley to the south. The city has a population of over 240,000 as of 2019. Azusa was founded in 1875 by James A. Wright and his wife Mary Ann Wright as an agricultural community known as Winton. In 1886, Wright sold the community to Pemberton & Company for $5,000. Pemberton renamed Azusa after its founders – James A. Wright and his wife Mary Ann Wright – with the hope that people would stop calling it Winton because it had become a familiar name throughout Southern California. The first church in Azusa was built on October 25th, 1875 by Revs John Crain and Charles Crain from Yorba Linda. On November 5th, 1875 Revs Jno Saunder and Geo Fenton from Palos Verdes performed their first service there under the direction of Revs John Crain and Charles Crain. The first school in Azusa was also built on October 25th, 1875 by Mrs Euphemia Kirkpatrick from El Sobrante with funds provided by her husband Daniel Kirkpatrick Sr.. Reverend Jno Saunder served as teacher at that school until1886 when Reverend George Gillett took over teaching duties at nearby Alhambra High School which then became Azusa High School until 1971 when it merged into USC (University of Southern Californias) . Rev Mr George Gillett who later became our current Pastor started attending Divine Providence Parish Congregation Deeper Life Zion Church which is now Our Lady Of Good Counsel Parish in 2018 where we have been Celebrating Mass every other Sunday since then! After Divine Providence left our parish he re-joined Our Lady Of Good Counsel but they closed up shop due to lack of members so he reopened our parish on September 1st 2020! As you can see this littleChurch has done quite well despite all odds! As mentioned before Azusa was originally founded by two gentlemen named James A. Wright and MaryAnn Wright with one main goal being getting rid of all those pesky calls to Winton like "Winton's" everywhere in Southern California were becoming too familiar for local residents to remember their original namesake town's original purpose: agriculture only! And what better way than having your namesake town renamed after you guys when everyone else seems content rename their hometown every few years? SoJamesA Wrights new Town got its start not just because we decided it should but because somebody wanted us to get started!!!

Azusa's growth was helped by its location at the crossroads of wagon routes linking San Francisco to Los Angeles and Sacramento. The town's fortunes changed in the early 20th century when aviation began to become a popular method of delivering goods and passengers over long distances. Azusa became one of the first stopovers for travelers on their way to Greater Los Angeles. Aviation also led to new job opportunities for locals, providing new impetus for Azusa's development. The town of Azusa, California was founded in 1849 by the brothers George and John Albright. The town was named for a Native American chief, Azusa Doña Isabel. The Albrights were farmers who also built a tannery and mill in the town. The first post office was established in 1851. In 1861, the United States Post Office moved from downtown to the new Azusa depot on Main Street. In 1865, Azusa became a city and it has since grown into one of Southern California's most significant communities.
