The Bakersfield Air Force Base gift history began in the early 1940s when the United StatesAAF (USAAF) activated its first bombardment squadron, The 1st Bombardment Wing. This unit was stationed at RAF Bicester in England and soon after began exchanging gifts with other air forces throughout the world. In 1949, The United States Atomic Energy Commission (USAEA) purchased a bomber aircraft from England's Bomber Command and named it The Boeing 377-248. It served as the basis for the United States Air Forces in Europe (USEF) Boeing 747-100 Flying Legends Tourist Aircraft program which flew over many European cities during December of each year. These displays of American Aviation were also a fundraiser for UNICEF, which helped provide food and clothing to millions of children around the world during this time period. On July 12, 1951, The 1st Bombardment Wing moved to Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio where it became operational as part of Tactical Air Command (TAC). Inactivated on August 15th of that same year due to lack of funding. In 1963, TAC activated its second bombardment squadron; The 5th Bombardment Squadron which was stationed at Hiller AFB California. This unit Exchange gifts with other USAF units throughout North America until its conversion to an all jet outfit on October 17th 1969.. From then on through until 1992 when it was inactivated again due to budget cuts; USAAF gift history at Bakersfield AFB consisted of countless exchange gifts between USAF units and their counterparts worldwide including numerous jets and helicopters among others! This activity continued even though USS Enterprise (CVN 71), which had been originally built for AAF use as a carrier based aerial tanker/drug smuggling mission into Latin America ended up being used by Navy Seal Team Six instead! Throughout these years many artifacts have been acquired by USAEA from various USAF facilities across North America including an F4U Corsair fighter aircraft flown from RAF Coningsby UK during Operation Neptune's Spear against Iraq on March 28th 1990 while also providing surveillance data back home during Operation Desert Storm on November 4th 1991!!! Finally On July 21st 1996 when both bases closed their doors forever - ending centuries worth of military Gift History between USAAF units and their counterparts worldwide!!!

Bakersfield (formerly known as Kern County) is a county located in the U.S. state of California. As of 2010, the population was estimated to be 198,399. The county seat is Bakersfield. It has a total area of 681 square miles (1,817 km²). The United States Census Bureau reported that the population had increased to 249,723 by 2020; however, this estimate may be underestimated due to undercounts in some areas and overcounting in others. The first people who lived in what is now Kern County were the Hohokam Native Americans who built villages near present-day Bakersfield and other towns on San Joaquin River floodplains between about 1175 and 1300 AD. They were followed by Anglo-Saxon settlers from England during the mid-15th century AD. In 1846, when California became part of the United States, it included parts of what are now Kern and Del Norte counties as well as an area that includes today’s Bakersfield Valley including much of present-day Tulare County*. In 1870*, four years after California attained statehood*, Kipling wrote about “A Mexican Town In America” which recounted his experiences living among Native Americans at Yuma Mission: I passed through their villages on my way down to meet Pahrump [Pueblo de Oro], one of their principal centres; they called it Yuma because there was a great shining rock upon which they used to place offerings before their god Pahrump[]. There was no town there then except these few small scattered huts; but soon enough all around us came new villages rising like flowers out of the earth: Pahrump next door disappeared altogether behind a hillock or two; another village sprang up close by whereupon Yuma began to look very strange indeed….It would have been interesting if we could have got at least one picture of them all – but unfortunately those days are gone forever*.* *Note: This account does not mention any connection between Yokutank Village northwest of Nome on Yukon Territory's edge beside ancient trade routes linking Alaska with Siberia and China)
