Baldwin Park is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 33,610 at the 2010 census. Baldwin Park was incorporated as a city on November 14, 1912. It is located on the border of Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The history of Baldwin Park can be traced back to 1855 when two brothers named John and Salmon Baldwin founded the town of Baldwin in what is now Riverside County. The original site of the town was just south of present-day Midway Road and east of the Barker Reservoir. In 1872, John Baldwin donated 4 acres (1 km²) for a public square in downtown Baldwin Park, which remains today one of its most popular tourist destinations. Baldwin Park experienced some post-World War II growth due to its position as an important military base during World War II and because it served as the home county seat for San Bernardino County from 1911 until 1992 when it was moved to Riverside County. The expansion continued postwar through annexation by other cities including Irvington and Redlands before becoming an independent city on November 14, 1912 with a population of only 25 residents. Today’s city has seen significant growth since its incorporation – both economically and demographically – thanks in part to its location within easy commuting distance of major metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles and Phoenix. One result has been increased access to quality education opportunities; according to City data, almost half (46%) of all jobs found in Baldwin Park were held by employees who had no outside training or experience whatsoever prior to joining their company or institution! The Baldwin Park area was once a part of the Mexican territory of Alta California. It was given to United States in 1848. The first white person to live in Baldwin Park was James Fenton, who bought the land from the Mexicano government in 1853. In 1865, John Sloat built a flour mill on the stream that flows through the community. The mill produced flour for local businesses and also exported it to other areas of California. The town started as a small farming community with few buildings and only one street. By the early 1920s, Baldwin Park had developed into a large city with over 100 homes and businesses. The city boundaries were redrawn in 1924 when Los Angeles annexed much of southern San Bernardino County.
