Baldwin Park is part of the San Bernardino Valley and is bordered by Fontana to the east, Gahanna to the west, and Chino to the north. The region now known as Baldwin Park was first populated by Native Americans who lived there for thousands of years before European settlement began in 1846. The City of Baldwin Park was incorporated on November 3, 1892. It became a town on December 1, 1907. A post office operated in Baldwin Park from 1912 until 1918. In 1913, John Blythe donated land for what would become downtown Baldwin Park. The park was developed over time and has since been one of the most popular areas in town with its many amenities such as a lakeside promenade and basketball Courts (now home to the Kern County Sheriff's Department), tennis courts, a recreation center and numerous other businesses. Today much of what once made up downtown BaldwinPark have been replaced by new development such as restaurants and shopping malls but some historic buildings still remain including: old courthouse (demolished in 1990) which sat across from Genoa's Pizza restaurant now used as offices tower called " Gateway Tower"; Eitelhoff Drugstore - currently used as apartments buildingformerly known as Kaiser Permanente Hospital building next door now home to IMAX movie theater called "The Regency" after then Mayor Pro Tem Van Nuys named his building after this mall chain when he moved into his new office adjacent thereto in early 2000s; former Bennett Hotel - currently used as offices tower called "Hollywood Towers".
