Baldwin Park is a small city located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 37,814 at the 2010 census. Baldwin Park is home to the University of Southern California and six high schools. The first people to live in what is now Baldwin Park were the Pueblo of Tejon Indians who lived there for about 35 years from 1821-1826. They were followed by the Anza Expedition which discovered San Bernardino Valley in 1769. It was not until 1846 when Mexican American José de la Peña founded a mission, Nuestra Señora del Carmen on the site of present day USC. The City of Baldwin Park was incorporated on October 15, 1907. The original boundaries included all of today'sCity of Pasadena including most of Alhambra and portions of Montrose and Westmont Community Schools as well as parts of El Monte and North Hills residential areas eastward to Orange Avenue. In 1912 voters approved annexation by Riverside County which added much more territory including much of today's University District In 1916 voters passed an ordinance creating Municipal Airport with right-of-way over part or all the city limits, this airport would eventually become Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). In 1928 Mayor Harry Sweeny dedicated Memorial Stadium which seated 30,000 spectators for games played on USC Trojans football and basketball teams; it also served as Homefield for LA Dodgers baseball team from 1951 through 1957 On November 5th, 1926 City Council voted 3-2 to annex Agoura Hills School District northward into City Limits
