Banning, California is a small town in the Mojave Desert located between Las Vegas and Phoenix. The population was 5,512 at the 2010 census. Banning is considered an agricultural community with negligible industry or services. The economy is based largely on agriculture and ranching. Banning was founded in 1893 by William Banning and his brother-in-law, George Stackpole. From its early days, Banning relied heavily on irrigation to support its growth. In 1907, the city of Tucson built a diversion canal near Banning to increase irrigation water availability for the farmers in the area. The 1920s saw a major boom in agricultural production as new methods of sprayed pesticides were developed and became more common throughout North America. With increased demand for food and fuel, prices for crops went up dramatically, bankrupting many small businesses. A number of farms closed their doors during this time; however, others began to invest in new technology and marketing approaches that would continue to lead to success through the years. In 1965, when Don Sheffey took over as mayor of Banning after leaving office as county commissioner, he made it one of his priorities to promote local tourism as a viable economic engine within the community. When the United States Air Force was created in 1947, one of its primary goals was to provide air support for our troops on the ground. Over time, the USAF became known for their impressive deployment capabilities. In recent years, the USAF has fielded several different types of aircraft and fleets in order to provide a more diverse range of services. One of these deployments was in support of NATO’s Operation Noble Eagle which took place from December 1999 to May 2000. This operation saw over 50 planes from both the United States and NATO fly together over 11 countries in order to conduct airstrikes against terrorist targets. Additionally, during Operation Neptune Spear (July 2006-November 2007), almost 60 planes flew together under one banner as part of a US-led campaign against terrorism in Afghanistan. These deployments have shown that the USAF is not afraid to deploy large numbers of airplanes and personnel anywhere in the world at any time necessary.

Banning, California is a small town located in Inyo County, California. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. Banning was founded by prospectors in 1879 and named for H. B. Banning, one of the founders of the town. The first post office was established in 1880 and it changed its name to Banning in 1903. The town has been a hamlet since 1907 and an incorporated city since 1911. Banning is located on the east side of Highway 395, about 12 miles north-northwest of Salinas and 10 miles south-southwest of Fresno. It lies at an elevation of 4,558 feet (1,362 m). According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Banning has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, abbreviated "Csb" on climate maps. The community experienced rapid growth after World War II when agricultural production increased and new housing developments were constructed adjacent to local businesses. However, during the late 1990s economic recession some residents chose to sell their homes and move away from BanNING due to difficult living conditions including high unemployment rates along with lack of public services available within walking distance or driving distance from their homes. Today many residents who have decided not to leave continue working in agriculture or other related industries as well as enjoying all that BanNING has to offer both inside and outside its boundaries; such as hiking trails which lead directly into Yosemite National Park or access to great restaurants nearby such as Jack’s Pizza & More or Pie Face Italian Restaurant just down the street from City Hall!
