Barstow, California is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield–Murphy Area Combined Statistical Area. A post office called Barstow was established in 1874, and the town took its present name from Augustus Simpson Barstow, an early settler and president of the Kern County Board of Supervisors.
