Over time, these businesses started to close down, but some continue to operate today including Don Toliver’s grandson Jeff Toliver’s cafe, Third Street Cafe, and Big Mike’s Café (now called Old Joe's). Barstow, California is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 3,717 at the 2010 census. It is located on the edge of the Mojave Desert and about 60 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The first permanent settlement in what is now Barstow was established by men from San Diego in 1852.
