Beaumont is a city in Kern County, California, United States. It is the county seat of Kern County and home to the Beaumont-Patterson municipal Airport. The population of Beaumont was 114,463 as of 2010. The original town site was located on the east bank of the San Joaquin River and was named for General Antonio José de Beaumont y Costilla, who fought in Mexico during the Mexican–American War. In 1851, John Sutter founded Rancho Cahuilla near present-day Fresno, California on land he had purchased from Juan Bautista Alvarado. In 1857, Sutter and his family moved to what is now BeaumONT in order to establish an agricultural base for their new rancho. The first post office in Beaumont opened on October 10, 1857. That same year saw the opening of the first store in town by J.B. Goodrich & Co., which became a major local trader and general store throughout its years of operation at 15th Street and Broadway Avenue North (later renamed 16th Street). The first school in town was built on property donated by Mrs. Sarah Merrill (now part of University Park) in 1861; it served grades 1-8 until it burned down in 1865 due to a fire caused by careless children playing near it! In 1863, General Victoriano Huerta issued Order No 5555 ordering all white men within 7 miles (11 km)of Mexicali to leave without bags or money; this order led to many Anglo farmers coming into town looking for work and starting businesses such as Wm Hargrave's livery stable at 14th Street and Broadway Avenue North which functioned until 1902 when it caught fire! In 1870s there were numerous building projects along 3rd Streets South between Main Street (later renamed Boulevard) and Cass Corridor calling for bricklayers, carpenters etc but no results were ever achieved as most people either left or didn't want their business near some rich Californian dude's cattle ranch! One notable event that took place while BeaumONT was still unincorporated happened back on November 11th 1886 when Native American Chief Manuel Nieto died suddenly after leading an attack against Spanish settlers west of here known as "The Battle Of Tejas". After his death many Mexicans began moving into what would become BeaumONT feeling like they could finally claim their rightful place within society despite being forced out centuries earlier! On July 25th 1907 Edward Teller set off an atomic explosion over Alamogordo New Mexico killing 29 people including himself thereby ending World War I! A plaque commemorating Teller’s achievement can be found at front door of City Hall just south of Third StS

Beaumont, California was founded in 1853 by José Castro and his brother Antonio. The town took its name from General Antonio Moro who fought for Mexican independence against Spanish rule. Beaumont's first post office was established in 1855. In 1863, the United States acquired the Rancho San Pedro from Manuel Nieto and named it Beaumont land after General Antonio Moro. The town saw rapid growth during the Gold Rush of 1848-1850 and experienced an influx of immigrants including Christians, Mormons, Chinese laborers, Germans and Italians. By 1860, Beaumont had a population of around 2,000 people. In 1865-1867, Beaumont voted to secede from California due to frustration with Governor John Broughton's policies. The following year, the town lost its charter and became an unincorporated community within Santa Clara County.
