Bell Gardens is a city located in Los Angeles County, California. It is bordered by the cities of West Hollywood and Beverly Hills to the south, Miracle Mile to the east, and Culver City to the north. The population was 79,157 as of 2010. The Bell Gardens area was first settled by Europeans in 1874 when a group of Irish-American farmers called the "Higginses" purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) southeast of downtown Los Angeles from José Romero de la Garza for $5 per acre. The Higginses named their land Bell Gardens after their home town of Belfast, Northern Ireland. A post office was established in 1875 and remained in operation until 1959. In 1902, millionaire Henry Ford bought 500 acres (200 hectares) on which he built his mansion now known as Bel Air Manor. Mr. Ford donated land for a public beach at Bell Gardens and dedicated it to the people of Los Angeles on July 6, 1922. In 1924 John D’Arcy Murray founded what is now Trocadero Productions Corporation with offices in nearby Century City and produced movies including "The Jazz Singer" (1927), "The Triplets Go buy some ice cream" (1929), "A Star Is Born" (1935), "The Wizard of Oz" (1939), "It Happened One Night" (1945), and "National Velvet" (1950). In 1951 Paramount Pictures merged with United Artists Film Corporation forming Paramount Pictures Corporation which would go on to produce such giants as "%$#*@&*@(%$#*@%)'"", "(%$#*@&*)". In 1957 Time Life Books published an illustrated book about early California called California: A History by Edwin Haskins which included illustrations by Harry Raymond Leach depicting life on Long Beach Peninsula before it became part of Los Angeles County

Bell Gardens is located in San Bernardino County, California. The area around Bell Gardens was first populated by the Tongva people in the early 1800s. In 1881, the United States bought land from the Tongva for $5 million. The new president of Los Angeles, James K. Polk, laid out Bell Avenue on part of this land and named it after George Washington Bell, a wealthy industrialist who donated $10,000 to help build LA's first public school. In 1915, Hollywood movie star Norma Talmadge moved to Bell Gardens with her husband and two children. She started a small candy store next door to her home called "Norma's Candy Store". Her store was among the first in North Hollywood and became known for its delicious licorice products. In 1927, RKO Radio Pictures founded its own radio station in North Hollywood called KTLA (AM).
