National Guard gifts have been a part of the Bell Gardens community for over sixty years. Gifts from individuals, businesses, and organizations have helped support local military detachments and special operations forces in the area. The National Guard has also played a role in the city's history by providing security during various events such as fairs and festivals. In 1951, the City of Bell Gardens established a detachment for the National Guard. The detachment was made up of soldiers from California and Nevada who were needed to help protect local events. This detachment was later renamed the California National Guard Battalion 101st Airborne Division (Airborne) and served as an airmobile commando unit until 1976. In 1978, the battalion was transferred to California Army National Guard at Camp Pendleton where it became known as 1-10th CA NG Unit 101st ACR (Air Assault). From 1984-1996, 1-10th CA NG Unit 101st ACR (Air Assault) served with Special Forces Task Force Red Eagle at Holloman AFB in New Mexico before returning to Bell Gardens on October 14th, 1996. Since its establishment in 1951,Bell Gardens' citizens have donated items including uniforms, weapons, equipment, food donations, monetary donations and more to support their military detachments. Some of these donations includeitems like rifles and shotguns that are used by our military members for training purposes; clothing that is donated by civilians who want to show their support; blankets that are distributed during cold weather conditions; coffee machines which are given out as rewards for good behavior within school systems; water filters which are given out free when someone brings home a bottle or can of filter water from any store in town; solar chargers which can be used to recharge cell phones or mp3 players; calculators which can be used in class while test taking or studying for exams; flowers that are given when there is an event such as Fourth of July fireworks or Veterans Day parade. Enlisted members serve for up to four years with no possibility of promotion until they reach the rank of sergeant major or lieutenant colonel; commissioned officers serve for up to eight years with no possibility of promotion until they reach the rank of general or admiral. The Guard can be mobilized into federal service in timesof national emergency through proclamation from President George Washington or through legislation passed by Congress

The National Guard is a voluntary military force of the United States, composed of reservists and active duty members from state militias and professional units. The Guard was originally established on April 15, 1790 as the Continental Army's first national guard regiment. Today, the National Guard consists of over 260,000 men and women who are organized into 137 combat brigades across the country. The Guard has acted as a bulwark against insurrection during times of peace and revolution; its troops have also been called upon to provide law enforcement and emergency response in times of crisis. One hundred years ago, Americans were outraged by their government's lack of funding for their defense. This led to calls for an independent armed militia that could protect the nation from outside threats. On April 15, 1790, Congress passed an act establishing the Continental Army's first national guard regiment – known today as the National Guardsmen. At this time, there were only seven states in America: Rhode Island (not part of New England), Connecticut (the motherland), Maryland (the Federalist state founded by George Washington), Delaware (New Castle County), Georgia (two-thirds Cherokee Nation), North Carolina (Durham County) and South Carolina (York County). Each state had its own militia or rifle company made up mostly of volunteer soldiers from burghers or farmers not filled with patriotism or social obligations to their respective governments. Assembling a full regiment was no easy task; each unit consisted only about sixty men plus officers and warrant officers level one through three at most. Even more difficult was filling out certificates of appointment which stated how many rifles each soldier should carry along with his pistols and hatchet! Infantry companies were typically divided into two battalions–full regiments numbered 1-9 carried thirty rifles each while battalion companies carried anywhere from six to twelve rifles each with some carrying more than twenty! Officers were either commissioned lieutenants colonel or majors general who commanded entire regiments/battalions whereas captains supervised individual squads within larger units…it was not until 1808 when Richard Fenton became Commandant General at Fort Totten during Mount Vernon that enlisted soldiers could be given firearms! By 1800 only nine infantry companies remained operational in all thirteen states!!! In 1854 President Franklin Pierce created four Orders Of Call–anglicized versions of Huguenot order–to mobilize uniformed citizens throughout the United States for home defense duringlaquisition controversies around Kansas Territory by Ulysses S Grant following Manifesto Of Peace fiasco where Missourians rebelled against governor James Kossuth followed by anti-slavery riots in St Louis Missouri which left five people dead including two generals in command—all American citizens! Assemble A Regiment Or Armies And Use Them For War Or Domestic Purposes Only If Proper Authorization Is Given By Your Govt….No Militia Or National Guard Can Be Used In Common With Foreign Militarias…..Only Unauthorized Militia Can Be Called To Service In Time Of War…..Any Man Who Joined The Militia
The National Guard is a United States Army Reserve Component and the largest volunteer military force in the country. The National Guard has been in existence since 1792.
Bell Gardens was originally named after one of the largest trees in Los Angeles, which grew in that area. The Bell family had land here and the name stuck. In 1892 they bought a large lot on Belleview Avenue, east of downtown LA, and started to build their home there. By 1915 they’d built a two-story whiteedar house with a wraparound porch complete with bellpulls. It was designed by notable architect Edward Hutton. The Bell family remained active in LA County politics for many years, donating money to various organizations and playing important roles in local government. In 1943 they donated the home on Belleview Ave to UCLA for use as an administrative office; it remains today as the school’s Hansen Center for Research and Education. In 1957 composer Elliot Carter composed his famous song “Bell Gardens” about his grandparents who lived here before moving west into Beverly Hills. After Carter's death in 2006, his grandchildren donated the home and property to UCLA again as part of the university's Memory Project honoringCarter's life and work.
The area now known as Bell Gardens was first settled by the Tongva people in the early 1860s. They were a Native American tribe that occupied what is now Los Angeles County. In 1871, J.P. Morgan and his partners bought land in what is now Bell Gardens from the Tongva people for $2,000. The company built a mill on the site and began to grow crops. By 1881, the company had outgrown their initial holdings and decided to move Away from their original location in Bell Gardens to a new site in El Segundo, California.
