The Bell Gardens Naval Ship Museum is home to the country's only USS Constitution Museum. The museum, open since 1978, contains more than 2,000 artifacts from both American and Japanese navies. The museum also has a large collection of books and papers related to Navy history. One of the most popular items at the museum is the USS Constitution model ship. This replica of an old sailing vessel was first built in 1814 by Samuel Slater for Captain James Cook during his exploration of Great Britain's Pacific Coast. It is one of just a few original models still in existence and can be seen on display in different parts of the museum. The USS Constitution model ship was used as part of various training exercises for naval personnel throughout its career. Some interesting activities associated with this boat include racing it around San Diego Bay and taking part in maneuvers with other warships. In addition to its use as a training vessel, the USS Constitution also served as flagship for Commander-in-Chief Hawaiian Department from 1893 until 1895 under Commodore Perry's command after he successfully invaded Japan following Commodore John Frawley's proclamation that Hawaii could be annexed into America. During World War II, many USS Constitution model ships were converted into landing craft called PT boats or LCTs (landing craft cruiser type). These boats could carry assault troops or cargo to beaches or landing sites where they would then be unloaded and used by infantry units ashore while being escorted by destroyers or submarines once they had been landed. Most PT boats were eventually scrapped after war service but a few remain operational today as tourist attractions in coastal towns across North America

The Bell Gardens Navy Yard was a naval base in south Pasadena, California that served as the home of the United States Naval Academy from 1881 to 1915. The Academy's first building, known as "Old Quarters", was built onancock Avenue in 1881. In 1915, it moved to its current site at the corner of Las Olas Boulevard and Belleview Drive in Pasadena. The navy yard contributed significantly to both the development of Los Angeles and Pasadena and also played an important role in American military history.
Bell Gardens is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 61,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Westsidedeplorable Neighborhoods neighborhood in Los Angeles. The namesake of Bell Gardens is Samuel Freeman (1861-1937), who bought 640 acres (250 hectares) east of downtown Los Angeles in 1913 and developed it into one of the most exclusive areas in all of Los Angeles. He named it after his home town of Bellingham, Washington. In 1923, movie mogul Louis Biderman purchased 8 acres (3 hectares) adjoining Freeman's land for $1 million and began to develop what would become Hollywood Boulevard into one of Southern California's most famous streets. Biderman used his connections with then-Governor Culver to get state approval for a movie studio on the property and renamed the street Hollywood Boulevard after himself. Belle Epoque restaurant opened its doors on Bel Air Road in 1925 and became one of LA's first high-end restaurants; later becoming an internationally known steakhouse said to have been modeled after L'Atelier de Butte aux Trembles in Paris. The area around Belle Epoque became known as "the fashionable section" because many leading Hollywood actors lived or entertained there during the 1920s and 1930s.

Bell Gardens is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 118,828 as of the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Los Angeles County after Los Angeles and has a population growth rate of over 20%. The first settlement in Bell Gardens was made on May 24, 1894 when William H. Kirkland and his wife Anna founded an agricultural colony near present-day Huntington Park. The town name may be derived from two local hills – Bullion Hill and Garden View – or it may have been inspired by the surrounding beauty of its quiet streetscape with tall trees and small gardens. In 1902, John Leland bought land at what is now Elmhurst Avenue and Orchard Drive for $1,000 to create Bell Gardens Park. In 1904, the bellowing engines of Southern Pacific Railroad's (SP) Mulholland Branch were used to clear brush on site for an extension of their line to Industry; this became known as "the Glenview Roundabout" because it led from Bell Gardens into Glenview Heights. At street level today there are still remnants of those locomotives which can still be seen operational at various locations around town: one at Knott's Berry Farm off La Brea Avenue; another just south of Figueroa Street near Ventura Boulevard; another at Hollywood Boulevard & Pico Boulevard across from Staples Center; and a third located just east of Pasadena Plaza along Western Ave., until recently hidden among buildings along Western Ave.. King Ranch Road served as the dividing line between rural areas on the east side and Beverly Hills to the west until 1949 when that section was annexed into Bell Gardens proper. Today much of King Ranch Road remains rural while portions are developed including parts of North Hollywood which were once part of King Ranch Road. The city's first mayor was Harry Wessels who held office from 1907-1909 under then-Governor Georgepattern Fielding Hughes before being elected Mayor himself in 1911 under then-Governor Hiram Johnson Jr.. His predecessor had been Eugene Ashley who had held office from 1906-1908 during World War I before becoming City Manager afterwards serving three terms until his death in 1928 due to natural causes only months after taking office! After Ashley’s death Planning Board member Noble Richardson took over as Mayor but resigned following a scandal involving bribery allegations against him which also caused Fielding Hughes to step down precipitously effective March 1929 creating a power vacuum that would ultimately lead directly to City Hall renovations starting February 1930 overseen by Assistant City Manager Arthur Ashe! With both Mayor Richardson’s resignation AND fielding Hughes’ sudden death having taken place prior thereto Richardson became Acting Mayor but upon learning about City Hall construction plans he quickly left office again leading directly back into controversy since no one else wanted any part IN THE COUNCIL CHANGING OF ADMINISTRATION! Finally Effective April 1930 Starke Easley took over as ActingMayor with full responsibility for all aspects including Council meetings finally ending more than twenty years later when Tom Bradley became our current mayor
