Bell, California is a small town located in the central Valley of California. It was founded in 1887 by J.D. Bell and his brother-in-law, George Wijsbergh. The town became an agricultural center with coffee beans being grown and processed here. Today, coffee is still a major industry in Bell and it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area. The first coffee beans were roasted in this community by J.D. Bell and George Wijsbergh on November 5th, 1887. The beans were ground into coffee powder and sold to other farmers for sale or use in their homes as well as at local stores throughout the Central Valley region. In 1915, Jules Bourgeois opened his own roastery in Bell that continued to produce high quality beans until 1976 when it closed its doors due to poor health of its owner, Jules Bourgeois Jr.. From 1916 through 1975, Julius Alfred Roeffler ran a grocery store in Bell that was home to many local specialty shops including Butte Coffee Company which served up some of the best cup of java around! Today’s bell community continues to thrive thanks to their rich history and distinctive culture which has helped make this small town one of the most popular tourist destinations along the Central Valley region!

The history of Bell begins with José Joaquín de Borja y Costilla, who arrived in 1776 from Spain to explore what lay beyond the Andes. He named his new settlement San Francisco after General James K. Polk, president of the United States at that time. Borja y Costilla's explorations led him to find an area of high desert near present-day Sacramento that would be perfect for Rancho Gorda—the first land grant in California. In 1853, Joseph Folsom purchased Rancho Gorda from Juan Bautista Alvarado for $1,000 dollars. Folsom had come to California from Mexico City with plans to start a rancho (land grant) enterprise similar to those being developed by his Mexican friends Diego Rivera and Victoriano Huerta. The site chosen for Gorda was on the east side of today's Sacramento River between modern Elk Grove Village and Redding; it was flanked by hills about 800 feet high and bordered by forest on three sidesviron
